Just went the main site after reading your comment.... This all tweeter thing is a painful and sorry mess ( to paraphrase sk's apology ) . Everyone is having a go.They jump at his throat, all convinced they know exactly what he meant by that tweet. I wonder if they're for real. Getting that angry about a clumsy tweet? Seriously?

It's sad really and has happened before and will probably happen again in the future. It's the facelessness of the Internet, we all feel so entitled and empowered--and then we say deplorable things.

I do not mind famous people giving their opinions on anything...as long as they do not claim to be informed sources. Mr. King should maybe avoid topics that have words like children or abuse in it...cause you cannot win. Unfortunately, what you say CAN and WILL be used against you. It is better to be safe than sorry. Such is the way with social media. O Discordia!

As in the case of what do the first three letters of diet spell, so it is in the case of what does the first four letters in Twitter spell. I don't have a Twitter account and I don't want one. Noone needs to know what I am doing every second of my day or what I am thinking every second of my day. I do not judge those who do tweet. I just have better things to do with my time. I also do not have a Facebook account for the same reason. I personally was shocked when SK announced that he had a Twitter account. But, he is a celebrity and that is what most celebrities are doing now. I just assumed (yes, I know what the first three letters spell) that the SKMB would be enough for him to reach out to his fans.

I hear you and feel similarly. I do wonder if Stephen had more intended to use those sites for his friends and family rather than fans though... possibly because his contacts were also using them?

Could be. Hadn't thought of it from that angle. Maybe he should use a non-de-plume for Twitter and only let those people know about it? Like he does here........(oh I just opened up that particular can-o-worms again, didn't I? My bad!)

I wonder what sK could've tweeted which wasn't overtly supportive of the young lady's claims against Allen (despite all but two people in the world remaining ignorant of what may or may not have happened) which would not have drawn objection. I think the only thing he was actually guilty of was political incorrectness and honesty. Here's just another example of someone's free speech being attacked by those who disagree with an opposing opinion. At least sK didn't assume someone guilty or innocent.

Scribner had been pressuring him to start one and he may be regretting now that he caved. ;)

Yeh I thought it would be more along the lines of a promotional thang...moving with the times, getting his image out there to reach a wider/newer audience, as with the FB page. Personally I'd rather he just concentrated on writing new stories, but I'm a greedy gal. Instead of "twittering" he could be creating some juicy little shorts for us to sink our teeth into...a much more worthwhile use of his time/words.

Possibly it was at the suggestion of his publisher, agent, for business reasons. (?)

It really is eye opening. Remember this isn't some right wing politician they are hounding, this is Stephen King, who has championed liberal causes all his life. And yet they'd be happy to destroy him for one ambiguous tweet that didn't meet their standards.

Thank you. Exactly why I don't like extremists on either side. They are just vicious and will turn on you for not completely agreeing.
