.....she matches with Jerome's age much better, which will I think aid in the interactions-because, let's face it-she is quite childlike in some ways.....

She also matches Hodges' daughter's age better, too -- given his issues with his daughter, he feels paternal toward Holly. I thought it was a good change that gave that some added depth.

Given the quality of the production, it hurts me to say that the show is far too languid for me. The conflict between Hodges and Brady so far comes across as an afterthought.

There a lot of characters that don't add anything to the narrative thrust - ie far too much time at the electronics store and the opening credits sequence is so... boring and far too long. And Holly has come into the show way too late.

I was really pumped to see this series but not really digging it. :flat: Fingers crossed the last few episodes escalate the Brady/Hartsfield conflict. Harry Treadaway is the standout as Brady for me.

....I can see that side of it.....but there was a lot of "languid" writing in the novel as well.....

This another reason I'm so happy. Mr. Mercedes started here last Tuesday. Really loving the first episode. Great vibe. Holland Taylor is absolutely hilarious. Brendan Gleeson is one of our own and he is not hiding his Dublin accent, but not over doing it either. Perfect. Can't wait for the next episode.

Languid... Yes! :) (I had to look up the definition of the word languid lol.) I was trying to figure out why Mr Mercedes reminded me of The Colorado Kid. I loved both The Colorado Kid and Mr Mercedes. I must like languid lol. Thanks for solving my mystery :)

Languid might not be the right word - I do not think the series is slow at all. The opening scenes wrap me in Hodge's world and before I know it, the episode has ended :( And I love it that there are no commercials to destroy the mood.

Word people... What would you call a dark atmosphere that's somewhat southern gothic but it's not southern and it's not gothic?

Brendan Gleeson is excellent as Hodges. Great actor and, as I said somewhere, I was delighted when I heard he was playing the part.
Nice to see another Irish Constant Reader, doowopgirl. I'm just up the road in Drogheda =D

I thought the song playing on Brady's car stereo when he first arrived for work in Episode 1 was a nice touch

Was that Pet Sematary by The Kinks? I lost the first couple episodes when we switched out dvr boxes so I can't review it :( TuneFind lists the songs in each episode but the site sells tunes so I don't think I can post a link to it. The songs in episode 1 are...
It's Not Too Late - T Bone Burnett (opening credits theme song)
A Well Respected Man - The Kinks
Pet Sematary - Ramones
I Don't Want to be a Punk No More - The Rubber City Rebels
Fool for You - The Impressions
Laugh - Hammer Damage
I'm a Changed Man - The Impressions

Some of the scenes with music backgrounds are almost more like a music video than part of the story. Note: That was a compliment rather than a criticism lol. I loved that scene in TWD while Hershel's theme was playing.

There are only two more episodes left in this season :( Does anyone know how far along in the book we are?

As I'm still waiting to see episode 3 here I haven't a clue about how much of the book is included. Is it 10 episodes in total?
