This doesn't look like weeing... just saying. (Unless he is suffering like Paul Edgecomb in The Green Mile?)
See what I did there? Almost brought us back onto topic. Not quite... but nearly. :biggrin2:

Welcome John. You don't like Mr. Mercedes, OK. While this book won't be on my favorites list, I still respect him enough to know nothing is half with him. It's always full. In my view, Mr. King doesn't put out books unless he really believes in them. It seems like you like a lot of his books. This one just didn't catch your fancy. No biggie. Just remember, your comments about the him being in it for the money and us fans being overly enthusiastic is not really needed. I prefer to talk about the points of the book maybe you disagreed with or maybe there was something that you liked. We are not here to change your mind, but have a lively discussion. Stay around the forums. There's a lot of great, witty and charming people at SKMB!

    Basically this.

Any time someone makes mention of King being "in it for the money" make me LAUGH. I'd imagine he's quite well off (and deserves to be). ;) He loves the fans, and has been said, he doesn't publish unless he fully believes in the work, IMO

    Welcome John.

I'm a bit late in joining this thread as I haven't read Mr. Mercedes yet.

I have to admit that I prefer it when Stephen sticks to writing the kind of books that made him the master of horror. Mr. Mercedes is a departure from that, but I still have every intention of reading it. Who knows what I will make of it? I can't imagine any Stephen King book being "crap" though.

I'm interested to know why you didn't enjoy Doctor Sleep. Is it because it's a sequel to a modern classic and you feel as though some things are best left alone? I often feel that way about sequels, but I really enjoyed Doctor Sleep and felt he did Danny Torrance justice. If I was being overly critical, I'd say that Abra and her mother turning out to be Danny's long lost family was a bit corny, but that really is my only complaint and it's a very minor one.

It's interesting that two of the books you don't like are recent ones. Are you thinking he's lost something?
