For those of you mourning the loss of the wonderful series that was Downton Abbey, I think I might have a little something that might ease you through your time of grief.
I give you Mr. Selfridge. It begins in 1909 (I think), London. It's about real life entrepreneur, bombastic Chicagoan, Harry Selfridge.
He opened the first department store ever in London. He revolutionized the way people looked at shopping and even working retail.
It follows the social issues of the day, the store, it's employees and the Selfridge family through to... well I'm not sure because the last season starts at the end of this month.
There's so much about this program to love if you're into this period.
I am obviously giving it two thumbs up.

If you have Amazon Prime you can watch seasons 1 through 3 for free... I say free, but one did pay the Amazon for the Prime to begin with. I kind of cringe when they say watch it free. I feel like asking for my premium back if it's free. Well look at me talking like the fugal customer.

I've wondered about that one :) I do like Jeremy Piven.
Jeremy Piven is perfect for the part of Selfridge. In life he was larger than life and full of himself, but yet still loveable. Sort of like the P.T. Barnum of retail. So yeah, Piven is perfect. He's outstanding as a matter of fact.
When I watched Downton Abbey I kept waiting for someone to go to Selfridge's. It became quite the daring do for young Lords and Ladies. They never did mention it, I don't think, but it would have fit in perfectly.
One of my favorite characters is sassy Lady Mae Loxley. She was the first of the upper classes to shop there.
