I'm not a musician. I think I could've been. (I'm egotistic enough to think I could have been anything.) So I can't contribute anything original. But that is really beautiful work you're displaying here. I could listen all day.

We all have our popular icons, I guess. My main one is Keith Emerson on keyboard. I've seen him live, twice, and I just have never seen him anyone do what he does. He seems like a freak of nature, and i honestly mean that in a complimentary way. I understand the dedication and practice that it takes to convince someone that you're a "natural."

Two things.

I remember Grandma and I walking through a neighborhood festival in San Francisco. A local band was playing (Jeff Cobb Band? Maybe?) and the players, and particularly the guitarist, were fully the equal of anything I'd heard from any "guitar gods" on pop radio.

We were on a cruise, and there was a singer/entertainer lady who just had us transfixed with her talent, vocal range, and charisma. Being a cruise, we actually chatted and drank a little bit with her afterwards.

Those two occurrences gave me some insight of how in music, and like any other profession, what separates the really good from the great is so often a matter of perception, timing, and luck. Oh, there are many other things that enter into it. But I'm sticking with those three as being at the top of the Public Recognition Pyramid.

Bryan, very nice work. Thank you.

Last one for a while.

I neeeeeded a vacation, and was not in the position to take one, so I made due. I'm certain that rum and pineapple was somehow involved. I also didn't have any steel drums handy, so I tried to make the guitar enough. This song is my tour de force of both right and left hand technique. Thanks to Joe Satriani and Steve Morse.

Although not currently ”active”, I have played a variety of instruments over the years. Started out as a drummer, and played in a punk (we wanted to play metal, but didn't have the skills) band for a while. Then I got myself a keyboard and sort of got recruited by a reggae band. Played that instrument with the band for a while until we decided to fire the drummer, whereupon I took over the duties as drummer once again. Simultaneously I got myself a guitar and played in a hardcore band. I like reggae, but needed an outlet for the more aggressive side.

After playing in bands for several years I got tired of people not showing up for rehearsals, internal silly arguments and whatnot. So I decided I've had enough. Only to be persuaded to become the bass player for yet another band a year later.

Turned out I really learned to love the bass, and I played the hell out of the instrument in two bands, before finally deciding (for real this time) that I apparently wasn't a ”band person”.

With new technology (computers, that is) I realized it might be better if I played everything myself, and tried to sing as well. Which I did for a couple of years. I am no Bob Dylan, so I focused on playing covers of songs I liked, and experimented by trying to put my own personal mark on the songs (and I don't mean the squeak of the chair I'm sitting on, which you can hear in at least one of the songs).

Here are a couple of examples, I play all instruments and, eh, ”sing”:

To mods: these are my recordings, no copyright infringment possible because I don't license my stuff that way, and don't really believe in copyright anyway.

Great voice. What's he doing now?
:) Not too much musically, (Although I think he might still be helping his former band with recording the last few tracks.) he's working toward getting his teaching degree... slow process though because he is working full time at present to help fund it.

I like this one too... A Moment
