Really Random Question.....Does anyone here watch the TLC show, My 600lbs life? I'm hooked on this show...each story is so freaking interesting....I'm always at a loss for words!
I've caught bits and pieces of it but (forgive me) I have little compassion for them. I mean at some point they had to realize they were 300, then 400, then 500...I mean, mercy, when your lap is touching your knees you have a problem. Having said that I know a few obese people and it is a problem that can spin out of control. It must be mortifying to have to seek help.

I feel horrible for the people involved (well some of them), it is interesting to me to see the dynamic that made it happen. The fact that they have all these enablers....its wild! Whoever thought of that show...Kudos!!

I'm hooked. Just recently, but now it's my late night Wednesday show. I work late on Wednesdays, get in bed late and stay up way to darn late watching this. I was so excited this week to see
Stephen? I think that's his name - he finally "got it". What a mess that boy was - in his head even more so than his body. I wonder what kind of baggage is following that family? Poor Dad. But where's Mom. Either they haven't talked about it or I missed it.

We might need sisterwife to move this to Other TV. Oh Dana Jean ! Whachoo durnn girl?

Yeah, it does pull at your heart strings but a couple of them have learned how to be master manipulators. Do any of them have success stories?

You are not alone...I'm up until 1 watching this show!

yes, you missed it...the mom and her boyfriends were abusive to the kids. Their dad was divorced from the mom. Eventually she abandoned them both.

More so the first and second season had successful individuals. The last few season...they do lose the weight...but not that extreme weight-loss type of success. Also, I think as the show progressed they looked for more obese people with attitudes... a lot of the people on this season had horrible personalities.

I do not watch TV but I think that obesity is an addiction just like cocaine is. I am sure that people do not want to be this way.

You should definitely watch this show! I don't think obesity is an addiction...but for some people I do think it is a destructive mechanism used to mask pain, rejection...etc. This last guy....really tested my humanity....I've never seen such an ungrateful, mean spirited person in my life.

Honestly, I'm not sure why they just did not starve him until he got some common sense......and yeah....that sounds horrible...but this guy was like the Crimson King on crack!

He was scary crazy. But then I wonder why in the world his dad just kept bringing him food. At some point you've got to quit enabling.
It's tragic. I've got a cousin who's had this surgery. She's managed to keep the weight off for 10+ years, but she's whackadoodle. Always has been. She just stays pilled up. She changed addictions. She can't function. She still just sits and does nothing. And her children have watched this - I wonder if they are going to grow up to be the same way. They are both horribly obese already.

Thank you !! Dana Jean

I watch this show too, it keeps me on my diet. I love food. I've been on a diet all my life just to keep from gaining weight. And just like some of the people on the show, I make excuses for eating what I want to eat. Y'know, like... One little pizza won't hurt and it will make me feel better.

Stephen was a master at making excuses. I hope there's a "Where are they now" follow up to Stephen and Justin.

I've only seen this show once. Two brothers. I just could not stop thinking about hygiene. I am not saying that in a mean way, just wondered how they are able to keep clean.

My ex FIL was obese. Owned a couple of restaurants as well. I loved him dearly, I did. Kind soul, but could not get over food. If someone would ask for directions, he would name all food places as landmarks.
He ate well, and in fine dining establishments - including his own, but would order pizza while waiting for the Chinese to be delivered while at home.

Thing is, he was always so smartly dressed, he was more round and hefty looking.
But big, yes.

My sister ran into him about a year ago, I had not seen him. She said he lost 250 lbs.? I don't know if it was surgery or not. She said she did not recognize at first, he had to tell her.

He died shortly after. Broke my heart.

In your mirror.
What makes trying to recover from this addiction so much worse than drugs or alcohol is that you have to eat. You can't just completely quit like you do with drugs or alcohol. Recovering from this disorder is kind of like an alcoholic having to drink in moderation instead of quitting completely.

Yes, sir. I would think this is extremely difficult.
