Hi all! I'm new to this forum but not new to SK!
I was diagnosed with a chronic illness at the age of 13. I spent most of my teenage years in and out of hospital. The meds would (and still do!) keep me awake while the illness took all energy away meaning I was in bed a lot but unable to sleep. Because of the possible issues of my illness and my meds I was always placed on an adult ward and that's where one of the nurses kindly gave me his book to read as I had finshed all mine and at 4am bored and fidgetty. It was Pet Semetary.
Up until recently there's not one SK book I haven't read at least twice. Some, like Pet Semetary, have been read so often I've had to purchase new copies as they've fallen apart!
That nurse will never know how much he changed my life that morning. Stephen King has kept me occupied and sane through many hours of infusions, insomnia and isolation.
I have virtually every book SK has published, I'm missing some of the newer ones due to my health getting very bad. (was told in december 09 to enjoy Christmas as it didnt seem likely I'd see 2010 all the way through!?!? What did they know eh? Challenge accepted!? Lol)
I'm now medically retired at the age of 40 and virtually housebound but have all the time in the world to sit back and read to my hearts content. However I have drug induced arthritis now, along with my 4 other chronic illnesses, throughout most of my joints including wrists and hands. Somedays I can barely hold a toothbrush let alone one of SKs bigger novels especiallly as most of my copies are hardbacked as well!. Im starting to get a bit frustrated as i haven't reread The DT series since before 2010. I've never gone so long without checking in with Roland!!.
The saddest part is I've got about 5 books sitting totally unread as they've been bought as presents but I can't hold them to read them. As i can no longer work money is tight and I can't be spending much needed cash on a kindle book (or e read app) I actually already own.
So my question is, and i already know the answer really, is there any future plans to acquire a digital copy of purchased books, amazon do it in the UK on CD'S, In truth I would be exstatic to find out I could scan a code in any of my books and get a link to the digital version. I would love to continue to collect the books but i also need to read them.
Does anyone know if this is possible or even if there's talk of future possibilties?
Sorry folks for the long message/short question, in my defence it is 7:40 am UK time and I've managed to get a litle more than an Hours sleep. I finished my book at 5am, 11/22/63, its only taken me 18 months to finish as i had to give up with the book and wait to have spare money to buy it digitally only to then be on increased morphine over winter! Hence the reaon for joining you and asking!
Much love xx

Welcome to the Board! I'm so sorry about your health problems. If I'm understanding correctly, what you are asking is whether you can scan a barcode from a book you already own to enable you to download an ebook version at no extra cost. Is that correct? To be honest, I have no idea if Hodder is planning to do digital editions but could ask but want to make sure I'm asking the right question.

Yes hun, thats exactly what I meant! (brainfog and insomnia kinda sucks sorry!)
I hate reading electronic, theres something comforting about paper books but at least I have the option. I would normally be quite happy to pay for replacements but I just can't afford to!
If there's no option yet I would be very grateful if you were to ask Hodder if it will ever be on the cards.
Don't really fancy the alternative........dismantling the books and scanning the pages and then reading them via a file explorer on my tablet!! How sacreligious?? :pudency: xx

Hey guys, thanx for the thoughts but the last thing i want is sympathy. I wouldn't know who to be if i didn't have the battles with my body! I am who I am because of the struggles! As time goes on, and one diagnoses gets trumped by another, it does get harder but thats life for everyone. Mine is just happening sooner and i never fooled myself any different. I have lived an awesome life when I've been able to and on my good days I will have more adventures, thats a certainty! I know I've done more with my life than a lot of people who have good health.
So please no sympathy or pity? Empathy is ok but generally laughter is my way of coping! Xx

Hi Freaky Fairy, I hope you are able to obtain what you need. If not, there must be some king of contraption out there that'll hold a physical book and turn the pages. I hope. Good luck and all the best, mal.

Mmmmm! Maybe thats my next step in life! I have a 'Craft' room which is over flowing with tat that I call Come in handies.....give me my dremel, a hammer and maybe some duct tape and I'm sure I could MacGyver something! Thats a better plan than killing poor books! lol xxx

I just looked at Amazon.co.uk and they have lots of King's works available for the Kindle. The prices aren't that inexpensive, though. You can get Kindle for PC for free, but you'd still have to pay for the books.

Here in the USA, many libraries carry ebooks that you can check out for free. Perhaps that's another way.

Even better that you are a MacGyver type! Unfortunately, I'm more of a MacGruber. One other thing I learned on this site, I believe Ms. Mod mentioned it once, is that there are some published books made in a special way to stay open flat on the page you are on, rather than flapping to another page or closing completely. I think some of Mr. Kings books are like that. All the best, mal.

Its the cost thats the primary concern. If i were to buy the normal books I would now buy from amazon or google books but i have 2 books bought for me at christmas that i can't physically hold without crippling my hands for 24hrs and my beloved collection i can't read and just cannot justify the expense on books I've got on my shelf! Maybe a lend service to people already in possession of a a print. *** I'm missing Roland :love-struck: ***
