This was a fun year for watching films for me. I didn't see as many films as last year or any year for that matter but most of the sequels lived up to my childhood imagination of what I wanted them to be.

Best Music Video of 2015: Earworm 50 Shades of pop mash up of all songs and music videos best music video of the year

My favorite films of 2015 in alphabetical order: BONE TOMAHAWK - THE HATEFUL EIGHT - IN THE HEART OF THE SEA - IT FOLLOWS - MAD MAX: ROAD FURY - THE MARTIAN - THE REVERANT(would love to see Alejandro González Iñárritu’s tackle BLOOD MERIDIAN) - STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS -

BONE TOMAHAWK - I hope he gets to make all of his novels into films int he future...
THE HATEFUL EIGHT - I hope TARANTINO can grace us with WESTERNS forever...
IN THE HEART OF THE SEA -
IT FOLLOWS -
MAD MAX: ROAD FURY -
THE MARTIAN - I can't believe the OSCARS... No Ridley Scott?
THE REVERANT(would love to see Alejandro González Iñárritu’s tackle BLOOD MERIDIAN) -
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS - Why can't they release a new Star Wars sequel every month

YAKUZA APOCALYPSE: Off the wall and... BAM...

IT FOLLOWS – One of my favorite horror films of the last few decades.

THE CANAL – Chilling and unnerving like watching HELLRAISER at 14…

The Drop – Can’t believe it didn’t get more hype and even nominations for anything. I didn’t even see THE DROP coming. One of my favorite gangster films.

MAD MAX ROAD FURY – My dreams as a kid of a Mad Max sequel – I wonder if the tribe at the end was in the original draft, the lost kids from Thunderdome.

Jurassic World – The sequel my friend Blain and I wanted and discussed in the weird science tree house as kids... I wish he could have seen it Wish we had a tape recorder of that conversation. We also wanted a dinosaur and modern animal splices.

Trainwreck: Funny... I thought it was one of the funniest in a while... I'm not big into comedies.

NAS: One of my favorite two albums of all time Nas Illmatic and AZ…

WILD HORSES: a tale that is told…

Kingsman: The Secrect Service - Best Villain of the year hands down…

NO TEARS FOR THE DEAD: A+ action the arc hit home. Just phenomenal. Hollywood is slowly catching up to JONNHIE TO & Lee Jeong-beom with JOHN WICK but man can’t believe the valley ain’t ship boats loads of money over to Korea yet to bring some of that Korean Kick Ass to the US.

John Wick: Keanu Reeves is the kool in cool of cool films... Wish I could meet the guy.

KURT COBAIN: Montage of Heck – My favorite documentary of the year.

His Way – Jerry Weintraub the cool in cool…

THREE OUTLAW SAMURAI –

Hanna -

THE BLIND SWORDSMAN: Zatoichi - America needs more Takeshi Kitano.

Digging up the morrow – Creepy being along for the ride for once.

WILD - “I'll never know, and neither will you, of the life you don't choose. We'll only know that whatever that sister life was, it was important and beautiful and not ours. It was the ghost ship that didn't carry us. There's nothing to do but salute it from the shore.”
Cheryl Strayed,Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar

“Whatever happens to you belongs to you. Make it yours. Feed it to yourself even if it feels impossible to swallow. Let it nurture you, because it will.”
Cheryl Strayed,Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar

The Homesman

ONCE UPON A TIME IN SHANGHI

Nightcrawler – Why in the hell wasn’t Jake nominated for an Oscar let alone won?

FURIOUS 7 - the Dubai scene in FURIOUS 7 is the first film in my life to make me feel like I was 10 standing on a cliff in the Smokey Mts.

Atlantis Throne Justice League: We need more Aquaman...

Exedus: Gods and kings – I like that films are starting to tell biblical stories from the Geneva book (whether it's conscious or not) first Noah than Moses… I hope they release a longer version.( Not that I'm a religious nut but I like the stories in Genesis)

KILLERS KISS – A caper that has yet to be matched.

GRIZZLY – Got the 30th Annie for .25 at a garage sale.

NOW YOU SEE ME – Fun… a great ride that is always one step ahead…

DRACULA: THE UNTOLD STORY – Another I can’t believe critics... I thought it was a kool twist on the vampire saga…

Knights Of Badassism – Wish I could see Joe’s cut. This film was like watching NOES 4 for me on tv for the first time. Only thing holding me back was what it wasn’t. PLEASE release the LYNCH CUT…

Jupiter Ascending – My daughter thought it was the coolest Cinderella story ever. So I liked it.

INSIDE OUT –

Ant Man –

Mission Impossible Rogue Nation –

Halloween Tales

The Verdict - "Kevin Doneghy: You guys... you guys are all the same! The doctors at the hospital, you... it's always what I'm going to do for you. And then you screw up, and it's, Ah, we did the best that we could, I'm dreadfully sorry. And people like us live with your mistakes the rest of our lives.
"

Avengers 2-

Babadook – The foreshadowing is the best part of the chill to come.

THE MAN WITH THE IRON FIST 2: Phenomenal soundtracks and score. Anytime you have a scanner exploding head in the water it gets a thumbs up for this Fate driven MutherF’r…

TERMINATOR GENYSIS: I liked this sequel a lot and felt it explained everything with all the films and also gave them all continuity. I really hope they make another sequel. I think this and MAD MAX are both films that are going to get huge followings on DVD and a sequel will benefit in the box office because of these great additions. You can apply the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET theory to the successes.

TV SHOWS –

MR. ROBOT – Loved it. Didn’t like the last episode but whatever. When the 90’s generation is infused with FIGHT CLUB & HOUSE OF CARDS

Fargo Season 2: I can't wait. I have tons of ideas for the show. Being from the area. Season 2 was so good.

True Detectives 2:I liked it from the start. . YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS people. Hence a critics words “Why do they treat the audience like we’re dumb.” The following week. “what is going on with this season? It’s completely lost me and I have no clue what’s going on.” If anything people might have been expecting the GRUMPY OLD MEN approach in season one. And though season 2 would be just the same. And if anything Season 1 had me completely baffled up until the 6 episode. I loved VAUGHNS character. I know someone just like him personality wise. I loved season two. MAKING A MURDER would be a good season 3 have FBI detectives investigate a town's police and courts. Maybe one of the detectives is released from prison to help with the investigation. I have another idea but would rather write it my self.

HOUSE OF CARDS – The truth will set you free… And House of cards is pretty close to most of it. People find it crazy because it’s just the one guy when in reality it’s the history of our government. We put people into the senate who murder people in their state US citizens for their land.

BLACK SAILS - Episode XVIII was worth the wait… Awesome ending and what I was expecting form the series.

THE FALL –Intense…

The RED ROAD – My only minor grip of THE RED ROAD was that it didn’t take place in Minnesota or the Dakotas… their rez’s are worse than most ghettos.

WALKING DEAD – Feb – March was my favorite second half of a since the series started maybe the best part of the entire series. The payoff at the end of this was like getting to the bottom of a ice cream dummies' chocolate cone. Loved how almost everything from the series was wrapped up. With the character arcs. Can’t wait to see them take on the WOLVES next.

DAREDEVIL – Great story wish all comic book got this kind of treatment. Hollywood should use Netflix to launch their origin stories and then make a film. DC should do it with all of the Justice League. I hope He plays the DAREDEVIL on the big screen along with Jon Bernthal as THE PUNISHER if we can't get THOMAS JANE...

NARCOS: I can't believe its true...

MAKING A MURDERED: I wish the cop would come forward about the license plate he called in. That is the creepiest thing of all of it.

I am seeing a definite lapse in our movie-watching habits, which is generally not to go to the movie and watch it when it comes out at home. One reason is that we're old, with only so much time left, and if we go see a movie that we don't like, we are going to bitterly resent the time spent going through traffic (which is hypocritical - we're seven minutes away from a nice theater), paying fifteen or twenty bucks, getting there early, jostling for seats, sitting through previews, watching a movie we don't enjoy, and then making our way back through the crowds and (seven minutes of) traffic to get back home.

Here's our standard scenario: We see the trailer. "That looks interesting!" "Yeah!" Movie comes out. "Shall we go see it?" "Oh, let's wait till the crowds have settled down." Then the reports from friends trickle in. "Well, shall we just wait till it come out on video?" "Yeah, good idea."

But some, we watch because they're big screen items. The James Bond movie, Avengers 2, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens were all movie events for us, and we enjoyed them all. But they were entertainment popcorn, fluffy and tasty, and I don't know that they'd belong on "best" lists, which I usually take to mean a triumph of the craft as a whole. Still, we didn't see much else that we liked any better.

I fell asleep after the first ten or twenty minutes of Mad Max, so I'm not the best evaluator for that one. I did see Jupiter Ascending on a long flight overseas, and although Ms. Kunis is usually captivating, the movie is far less so. In fact, her charms couldn't make up for it. (Between this one and Oz The Great and Powerful**, she's starting to lose the charm for me of her trying to carry a movie.) We wanted to see The Martian but didn't get to it, so I guess we'll catch it on the TV at home. I'd really like to see Ex Machina sometime. Sounds very interesting. Maybe I'll get Grandma to watch it and, in exchange, watch The Second Best Marigold Hotel with her.

I'm not much help on this, am I? Wait, did Lucy come out last year? We enjoyed... oh. 2014. How about The Lego ... also 2014? Okay. Never mind.

**Oz The Great and Powerful was a great example of bitterly resenting the time and trouble it took from our lives to watch a movie on the big screen.
