My son is now in the U.S. Coast Guard. Very proud of him.

....I can't repeat what my Army Vet son says about the Jarheads.....:D
Oh there's worse? I thought that my Navy Dad calling them Jarheads was mean!;-D On a serious note... All branches of the military are necessary and needed. I deeply thank all service men/women for keeping us safe. ( My grandfather was so incensed by WWII that he enlisted in the Army and then enlisted in the Navy back to back)

I will. I suspect he's ready to be done with boot camp. Evidently the Coast Guard is big on "reverting" recruits who are having troubles. That means they put them back a week in the training. Marcus wrote that he's met some folks who have been at Cape May, N.J. for up to twenty weeks! Boot camp is eight weeks long so that tells you something. Evidently the Coast Guard won't give up on it's people. Different approach when compared to the Army which would just kick you out if you were too much trouble in basic. But I went through thirty years ago so my reference is obsolete as well. Anyway he's made us very proud of him.

Back in the mid 1960's I worked at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital- now Cape Regional Memorial Center. We used to have Medical Coast Guard personnel work in our labs. Sound like you son will be well trained. Enjoy the celebration.

Almost there. Spent the night in Carlisle, PA. We will be in Cape May, NJ today. Marcus graduates on Friday (October 21st). This is the fifth time I've driven across the United States. This is one big flipping country! Stopped at the Flight 93 Memorial yesterday in western Pennsylvania. Very powerful place. Still feels like yesterday even though it's already been fifteen years.
