Guess what room I stayed in, yep 217

There was a nice king Sized Bed, a Stephen King book library in the tv stand, a copy of Stanley Kubrick's the shining in the Dvd player, a writing desk, a reading chair, and a lovely claw foot bathtub in the bathroom; ad when I checked out they offered to let me keep my keycard before I even had a chance to ask if I could keep it.

There are several Shining related themes thought the hotel, fire hose spouts (actual fire hose spouts from when the hotel was originally built in 1909), elevator key ( which serves no other purpose then when in was filmed for The Shining Mini series), MacGregor Room (filmed as the ball room the The Shining Mini series, Stephen King had the stage built for the scene), a message (redrum) in a hidden place (ill let you find it when you go there), movie posters, doll house, typewriter, and a fire ax.

Well, answered my own question. Went on the Stanley Hotel website and found this:
Stay at the famous Stanley Hotel in picturesque Estes Park - the inspiration for Stephen King's The Shining and celebrate the release of the sequel - Doctor Sleep!

Guests staying on the Doctor Sleep package with receive a copy of the newly-released Doctor Sleep novel (Hardcover) and a copy of Stephen Kings original inspiration The Shining. (Paperback cover) as well as luxury accommodations at The Stanley Hotel.

Please note, upgrades into Room 217 (King's room) may be available.

Available: 09/16/2013 - 12/31/2015

Neato!
Did you specifically request Room 217?
Is it difficult to make a reservation specifically for Room 217?
Is there a long waiting list to stay in Room 217?

I was lucky enough to be able to reserve room 217 at first request a week in advanced. I don't know how difficult it usually is to reserve, or if there is long waiting list or not.

Gawd, how I want to go there!!! I love everything about this hotel! It's amazing!

Its more amazing than I made it appear, there is more Stephen King related stuff (I didn't want to spoil everything) left some stuff for people who go there to discover on there own. The bar at the Cascade(hotel restaurant) serves over 800 types of whiskey (although I recommend not drinking any liqueur/alcohol until the very end of the day when your in your room for the night; I live in Colorado and even I felt the effect that Estes park elevation has on liqueur/alcohol). There is a Stanley steamer (car not vacuum) by the front entrance: and at least a dozen antique pianos.

It cost an arm and a leg; a haunted room ( their are 6 others than 217) go for $465( after tax) a night, a standard room goes for $335 (after tax) a night. I live 40 minutes away from the Stanley, but you are going to have a lot of traveling expenses especially coming from Canada and needing lodging for 4-5 days. If you an Andy have an arm and a leg to spare you might stay one night at the Stanley especially if your going to try for room 217. Boulder is a 40 - 60 min drive, Loveland and Longmont 40 - 50 min drive, Lions is 30 - 40 min drive but I don't know how well the town reconstruction is going from major flood damage in 2014. I saw a motel 6 about 5 minutes from the Stanley, but I don't know the cost maybe ill research the cost next week or after Halloween.

Most areas in the hotel are pretty accessible from 10am - 10 pm. Day tours start 10am - 5pm and they will show you the guest floors and outside of haunted rooms, music room, billiards room, the MacGregor room and basement, night ghost tours 6-10 pm will show you the concert hall, music room, billiards room, basement of concert hall and main hotel.
