I think "IT" is an instant classic for a Stephen King novel and a first for any person getting into reading Stephen King's work so far.

Thanks i appreciate the reply i very well like the story The Man in the Black suit that is also one of my favorites.Welcome to the Forum jake erb . You picked a great book to start with. As GntlGnt said above, King's work has evolved as he's matured through the years. To me, IT was the last truly great outright "horror" book he wrote. If you like his horror stuff, you'll enjoy pretty much the majority of his 70s & 80s output. I'd suggest Pet Sematary next. If you want to get a taste of what his stuff is like today, read Different Seasons. Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll be pleased. Looking forward to sharing stories with you on the board.
I respect your opinion...early King anyway...it's not representative of his current body of work....
Thanks for the consideration on reading my post, thanks for the welcomeWelcome Jake, hope you like the skmb..
....and I'm glad you do.....that particular novel is one of my all time Top 10's......it should be a required read for anyone approaching his body of work for the first time, I simply meant it's not going to work as a gateway for those resistant to reading "horror".....I respect your opinion
