"Paging Dr. Sleep."

Danny Torrance is a great character. The development wasn't as good as Eddie, Larry, or Susanna, but I am impressed with his humanistic qualities, like his guilt. I must say that this story is not as good as The Shinning, but it would be hard to create a sequel as brilliant (and scary) as the original.

The writing is good, but I sense some restraint. I feel he didn't let loose. The scenes are not as graphic as usual. But the writing is clear and structured well and the characters (even the villains) seem real.

The only problem I have with the story is Rose's hat. I won't go into why I have an issue with the her wearing a top hat, because it doesn't matter. I haven't finished the story and hope that piece of trash gets what she deserves.

Overall he crafted a good story and I am looking forward to the ending.

This hat... I wish it
wouldn't burnt in the end. Then there's would left some glimpse of hope to see it once again, you know like Christine in IT.

Doctor Sleep blew me away. I read some reviews somewhere that people were hating on this book, and I couldn't understand it. I had a really difficult time putting it down! The pain that Dan goes through, the struggles he has to face, those aren't struggles of a made up person. Those struggles are as real and as dirty as the scum of algae that grows in a ring around your toilet. There's no way SK wrote this book without going through some definite pain of his own. It's like he knew, intimately, the prison of addiction. How you can become your own worst enemy. And how it is perfectly possible to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, if you just have the willpower to do it. It's hard, so hard that some say it's impossible, but there are people out there who know better. When the only one that can save your soul is yourself, something has to give or you'll wind up dead. And King portrays all of that in such a simple, touching way that it stuck with me long after the book was finished.

Abra added a whole new element. She bowled me over with how darned cool she was. I would love to see how she grows, who she becomes, and what adventures await her. Her story can't be done! But then, Charlie McGee's story seems to be over, and she's another character that I badly want to see more of. Imagine if those two got together...imagine if the True had ever run afoul of Charlie..

And Rose the Hat. Let me tell you, it's hard to write up a half-way decent female villain. Sai King managed to breathe life into one of the most diabolical female characters ever written. I hated her, but I loved her too. She was the whole reason that story exploded in my mind the way it did. I was glad to see her get defeated, but I was sorry to see her go at the same time. Seems like a witch like her has to come sneaking back somehow. She's just too wicked to stay dead.

I'll quit rambling now. :biggrin2:
