Nada. Will get in touch with them again by the end of the week if I haven't heard anything as they were supposed to get back to me before I went on vacation last week.
....do they NOT realize who they're dealing with here?!?!.....

Stephen King to Open Main Stage at National Book Festival
Tickets Will Be Required
The Library of Congress announced today that Stephen King will open the Main Stage of the 2016 Library of Congress National Book Festival with a presentation and recognition by the Library of his lifelong work promoting literacy. Tickets will be required for the King presentation. Tickets will be free and will be issued electronically beginning Sept. 14. Please check the Library of Congress website at loc.gov/bookfest for more details.

Tickets are not required for other presentations or activities at the festival.

The National Book Festival will be held Sept. 24 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C presentation will be from 11 a.m.. The King – noon on the festival’s Main Stage, which will be located on the third floor. There will not be a book signing.

"Due to Stephen King’s popularity, we anticipate the volume of interest will exceed seating capacity," said festival co-director Guy Lamolinara. "A ticketed process will make for the most orderly and fair opportunity for Mr. King’s fans to see this presentation."

Seating will be first-come, first-served. Ticket holders must be seated by 10:30 a.m. Holding a ticket does not guarantee entry.

There is a limit of two tickets per person.
Accessibility accommodations should be made no later than Sept. 19 by calling 202-707-6362 or ADA@loc.gov. ASL services are offered at all book festival presentations.

Other authors slated to appear on the Main Stage are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (12:30-1:30 p.m.), Shonda Rhimes (2-3 p.m.), Bob Woodward (4-5 p.m.), Raina Telgemeier (5:30-6:30 p.m.) and Salman Rushdie (7-8 p.m.). Tickets are not required for these presentations.

Yeah I have seen that as well, but that is still not clear how to obtain the tickets. No phone number or email or wait list ect. And like you highlighted, even having a ticket does not guarantee entry. Guess we will just have to see how this pans out.

I've given up asking as every time I do, I get the "it's coming" response. Tickets still on sale on September 14th, though, so keep checking their web site. Perhaps they have an email sign up?

For something so large and done for years, it sounds very disorganized from the start. At least with the aspect of this part of the event. I see a lot of disappointed people unable to hear King speak due to some logistics failure. I have to assume the National book festival has had very high profile authors before that have had a high demand, seems like they would have this down to a science by now considering people have to travel for these events and some just to see King alone.

I think it's the pre-signed books instead of a signing that are throwing them for a loop with how to ticket this event. Just speculation on my part, though.

We're having this exact same scenario play out for the 'official' Prince tribute concert that's supposed to happen in Minneapolis on Oct. 13th. 'They' haven't even signed a contract for the stadium use yet! Prince's sister Tyka keeps tweeting about all these great artists that are going to be there but so far no one seems to know who.....

Staying home and watching it live on CSPAN is sounding like the best option. If there is no book signing, that will save a lot of aggravation. I can see having to stand in line for hours - if not overnight - to ensure getting in even with a ticket, hearing basically the same speech King gave at the EOW tour, and suffering the crowds and many pains of DC traffic/parking etc. I went many years ago and it was so crowded you could barely move. I gave up and went home.

Any news on the book that will be pre-signed? I know Ms. Mod mentioned it was probably going to be EOW, is this for certain?
I don't know how to tag someone or I would tag her.
That's still my understanding but I'm not involved with ordering the books as they do that directly through the book store they work with for the Festival.

This unfortunately sounds like a good idea. I think the pre-signed book ordeal is going to be a mess. And no guarantee of entry even with a ticket is a HUGE turn off. After doing multiple dates on the EOW tour I might sit this one out as well, only because of lack of certainty of even being able to attend once you are there. This event is only an hour or so from me so it truly pains me to consider not attending but the National Book festival needs to get there $hit in order.

That's my opinion as well which means that the whole thing will probably run like clockwork. King will decide to do an impromptu signing and I will curse myself for not going. DC is a royal pain though. And now even the Metro system is screwed up and under repair.
