I clean my elderly neighbours house for an hour a week on a Monday. Quite often, she tells me to forget the dusting, just lets chat. She is the most fascinating person I've met. An artist, who lived in LA in the 60's, she's been there, seen it, and most probably done it. She told me she started her travelling in France because "I was bored and knew I'd get to have some sex over there..... no one seemed to do it here". Then, realising nannying there in France wasn't working for her because "I couldn't ever f*****g stand kids" she took her chance in America. The tales she tells and the people she met, I'm really really really going to miss her when she goes.

She fell in love in America with a photographer. They travelled together. In the end, she broke it off, telling him he should concentrate on his career. His name, and story can be found here.....Priya Ramrakha - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
She had some photos of his she wanted to pass to his family. She is not computer literate at all. We researched and found his nephew. We contacted him and he came down and met our neighbour Tessa. He had been writing a book about him and was so grateful to have found Tessa, as he'd found letters from her in his papers, and she'd been mentioned most fondly. Meeting her, allowed him to find the missing pieces and finish his book.

I'm never going to have another neighbour, or friend, like her.

I wish I had a neighbour like that.

The most interesting neighbour I've had was an alcoholic, miserable old git who complained about anything and everything.

This Saturday is National Good Neighbor day. I guess it would be good to do something nice for the neighbor.

I'll do the same good thing I do for my neighbors every Saturday (and Sunday). I won't go out in my grubbies with bedhead and talk about their mother for waking me up at 7am with their lawnmower/weedwhacker/hedge trimmer. I won't shoot out their visitors car windows when they park ON the sidewalk in front of my house (leaving scuff marks and run over grass) block both of my drive ways and let their children poke sticks at Rhodes (our canine companion) through the fence and make him miserable.

Sorry. I have not been able to *sleep in* for a long time. Cranky old woman.

"Get off my lawn!!"

Peace.

The kindest thing I could do for one of my neighbours would be to kill my pet duck. They're always complaining about her quacking!

Not going to happen though.

Have mercy. I just posted a rant about my neighbors. I forgot (thankful) when our next door neighbors had roosters! No! No, roosters. Bad neighbor. Bad.:nonchalance:

Peace.

;-D

My little pet duck only quacks occasionally. Much quieter than a rooster!

I live in a small village in the country and all the other neighbours love her. Someone a few doors away used to have geese as well.

The neighbours that complain are just miserable.

And that is my 150th post! Hallelujah! :triumphant:

I got a good workout one day shoveling snow off the drive and walk. It felt so good, I just did everyone's walk. (We're in a small cul-de-sac.)

Some of the good neighbors have moved out, but we do what we can when people are out. Start up chats, help with raking leaves, or if they need to move stuff, or whatever. But we mostly have people who keep to themselves.....

.... with the exception of one of hte neighbors who's actually one of my best friends in town. We both like single-malt scotches, we've helped each other with yardwork and housework, fed each other's animals when the other one was gone, and he pretty much saved my life when I had a heart attack (not due to snow shoveling). So, yeah, I'd call him a pretty good neighbor.

I try to remind myself frequently how blessed I am to have the next door neighbor I have. He's lived there for only a few years but by now, were I to add up all he's done for me in realistic business terms, I suppose I already owe him at least a few hundred dollars. A good number of times I've been away from home long enough to require someone to watch my pets and house, and he's always been able to except for once when he himself was out of town. He's given me stuff for my pets, including cat litter, pet carriers, and a nice dog bed. He's even the reason I have my cat Motorboat, whom he rescued, as he has a curious hobby: he traps feral cats which live in the woods surrounding his warehouse and takes them to a no-kill facility which readies them for adoption. He's cut my backyard grass (weeds) numerous times just because he had nothing better to do after finishing his own yard.

It's a symbiotic relationship. When I'm away he enjoys having my house to himself, to kind of get away himself. I helped him recently when he had an IRS audit, to organize piles of his business's papers. I've been able to compensate him, when he allows me, with some cash, a bottle of this or that, and the other day with a Dali print. I've never known anyone quite like him.

There are geese not too far from where I live so the neighborhood petitioned to get signs up for their protection. Geese Crossing signs. I love them and love to hear them. I live near two separate little lakes and it's pretty cool. I have quick access to the city but it's a bit more peaceful in my area. I still have quick access to shops and such.

Rural neighborhood. Many that first established this area have move or passed. Now their children occupy their land. My dearest neighbor is just across the road. She only stays here from late October until mid May-- then back to WI. A few years back she had a stroke. Life changed in a heartbeat. This wonderful active woman, was now content to just live in the now. No more daily horse back rides, no more awesome flower and veggie gardens. But inside, she remains a true and dear friend. Kind heart and kind soul. The remainder of the neighbors live within their own little worlds. Sad.

Love the geese! Theyhang out in the field behind my church/work/office sometimes. They are so funny crossing the street -they'll have traffic backed up while they just mosey about. They are funny birds. The babies are adorable.
