I watched the trailer again, and my opinion of it has lowered somewhat, now that the "woooo, they're making a new one" hype has died down. The first two times I watched the trailer I was just enjoying the references to the first one, but, something seems a bit...generic....about the whole affair. Probably 'cause Chevy Chase isn't the star.

I know what you mean, but I am a huge Ed Helms fan. So I'm still stoked. :)

Perhaps - for those who did not grow up with the original.

Yes . . . and as far as that goes, it's perfectly fine.

I am more inclined, however, to believe that this endless fascination with other people's ideas is because of a distinct lack of -- drum roll, please -- original ideas.

I happen to like Ed Helms and expect him to do a creditable job as Rusty, and whether this film is any good (as the Mad Max reboot was) or not, it won't answer the question of why Hollywood simply refuses to try anything that hasn't been tried before.

I expect to like the new Muppets on TV, as well, but it's just more proof that by "empowering" people to believe that they're "right" no matter what they do, we seem to have created a generation terrified to do anything it hasn't already done (and been patted sweetly upon its head for).

I wanna see it. Why the hell not? Once any movie spawns sequels, its integrity is severly compromised, and it's all hit-and-miss from then on. I always thought European Vacation sucked. Christmas Vacation was alright, but now it's become such a part of the holidays (like Its A Wonderful Life) that you just groan when it comes on. Vegas...meh, whatever. Chevy was already lookin kinda tired back then. So carrying on with Ed Helms as Russ seems only logical. And I could watch Christina Applegate do the dishes.

Now...we're it a full-on remake I'd probably rather sew my eyelids shut than watch it.
