I also had no idea the hardwired alarms needed to be replaced. That's what we have, they are 10 years old this year. I know they are all working just fine, though, the steam from the shower set them off just the other day. I will mention it to Scott, though.

When is the last time you thought about your water heater? How old is it? When I lived in my condo, we were required by law to replace ours every seven years. How many of you drain your water heater and how often? I drain mine in the summer. Just attach a garden hose to the outlet (shut off the power at your breaker box and close the water intake valve first!) and let it drain out. I place the end of the hose outside, but you can place it in your bathtub if it's close enough (just keep an eye on it that it doesn't slip out of the tub and flood your bathroom). You might be amazed at how much calcium crap comes out of the end of the hose. This will help prolong the life of your heater and lower your electric/gas bill as it will keep the heating elements clear of calcium. Just a helpful thought.....
