I don't think the show has started yet, but I saw the 2-part episode on NCIS that had the team going down to New Orleans to establish the new cast. I have to say, they had every New Orleans stereotype in the show, from a trumpet player outside the Cafe Du Monde to the team eating breakfast at Mother's. Beads and barf everywhere in the streets, the buggies in front of Jackson Square and streets in the Quarter filled with drunken throngs. And I loved it. The were a little heavy-handed on all of the references, but they were completely accurate. In a lot of the scenes, I was able to say "I know that spot. I've been there."
The only thing they really need to work on is Scott Bakula's accent. He either needs to get it right or give it up.
All in all, I look forward to this show.

I'm looking forward to checking it out. I'm not a huge fan of Scott Bakula, but I like the camaraderie that's established with each CSI cast.

The only thing I like about NCIS: LA is Linda Hunt. Her work has always been underrated. She remains to this day the only actor or actress in history that's won an Oscar playing a character of the opposite sex. Not a pre-op transgender (Boys don't cry) but the actual opposite Gender. She won playing Billy Kwan in The Year of Living Dangerously opposite Mel Gibson.
Nothing else about the LA cast is likable in the least. The new one, though, has a much better cast, I think I like that they didn't subscribe to having exactly the same number of agents on the team.

...I'm not as fond of the LA cast as I am the original, but they still have good rapport...especially Linda Hunt-she's a hoot...

I've watched a few of the Mark Harmon shows, and while they didn't grab me, I understand why they'd have a following.

I've just seen bits and pieces of NCIS LA, and while I may have missed something seeing so little, I just didn't see what any Navy base had to do with it. The same with New Orleans.

I realize that the NCIS franchise is a winning formula for CBS and reality takes a distant back seat, but it just seems weird. Like having characters center around an Army outfit, but no one's in the Army. Or an FBI unit that's run by the CIA. Et cetera.

There's a Naval Base at New Orleans. But it's not necessary for there to be ships or a seaside base for there to be a Navy presence. I have a friend who's in the Navy that's stationed in Arizona. They do training there.
I think that only about half of NCIS agents are actually Navy. The rest are Civilians. All receive extra training specifically for NCIS. Like FBI agents do. They investigate crimes by or against Navy personnel but aren't run directly by the Navy. It's a Federal organization. They take a lot of artistic license, of course, but the shows got it pretty much right.

Scott Bakula, you say? Are they going to shoehorn a time travel plot in there, like they did on Enterprise?
(Because in both cases, they really, really shouldn't (have).)
Well, he WAS the Quantum Leap guy, after all. LOL!
Lord, I hope not. He's already butchering the accent, I hope that's the worst that happens.
They're actually filming in New Orleans, so maybe I'll see them one of these days. I like to spend time over there. That's just one more reason to hang out at Jax.

I don't get why he'd need to do an accent at all. I mean, it's not like they only recruit born-and-bred locals, is it?

When it comes to accents, though, I can't watch Peaky Blinders for what they do to 'Brummie'. I'd say their attempts were awful, but in truth they're not even that good.

Exactly. I'd rather see him lose it all together.
