Perhaps someone could help me out with this. I will do my best to describe a song I heard on a commercial that is an instrumental.

I'm not really a drummer, but I had taken lessons when I was younger. I will use that slight background in the instrument to describe, as best I can, the song.

Okay, first, like I said at the beginning, it is an instrumental. It seems to be a song from either the 1950s or 1960s. It also seems to be in the genre of a surf-type piece.

I want to say, if memory serves from what I heard of it, that it was in 6/4 or 6/8 time signature (that always confused me). My first instinct is to say 6/8, but it was in 6 to the best of my recollection.

There was, I believe, kick notes on the 1, 5, 6, or on the 4,5,6. When I tap it out, I instinctively go to the former. Thus, it is something like this:

1 2 3 4 5 6

B.........B.B

(By the way, it is possible there was a B (bass drum) on the 3, because if you play that groove in mid/fast-tempo, one almost naturally does that.)

Now, for those who are musicians, picture that groove, done with a rock feel but sort of being something from the doo-wop era, if you get what I mean. There were three power chords that formed the main hook of the tune. I can't describe them any better than that, but they were definitely prominent. They probably came in on either even or odd numbers on the 6-count of the drums; in other words, if the first chord started on the two, it would then be 2-4-6. Again, going by memory, I could be completely wrong on the math. But because the notes on the drums were somewhat quick, the power chords almost slowed the song down (this is not a fast-tempo song, I don't think, but when you play the hi-hat notes, they certainly could not be played in a slow-blues way).

That's the best I can do. Any ideas? Thanks.

....what was the commercial advertising?.....was it a national account or something local?......if it was national, it will be easier to identify then something local radio is using as a music bed....hell, the station I work for is a small town operation and we have thousands of cuts we use for underneath our spots.....

that dollhouse at the end of the street
I found this website that lists commercials with oldies songs. Without the product being advertised or some words in the song, I'm lost.
What song is in that commercial? Find music used in ads

That's a really cool connection danie, I never saw that when I was looking before. It happened to me once with a song that was just an instrumental and I just had to know who that was but it was so brief I didn't know what the ad was for either, though I knew it had a car in it and a radio , but, eventually I found it at youtube with 'swamp', and the artist was mentioned in the comments.

 check out this one ....

Swift, I wish I could tell you, but I don't know. It could almost be a 6/8 surf-type instrumental used as background music in something like Pulp Fiction. It's cool like that. I wonder, too, is it of this time or is it truly something in an earlier era? I just don't know. If it is an oldie, I honestly suggest tapping out the rhythm (or going to a drum set and doing it) and then picture three power chords, not the same, that could almost feel like cymbal crashes. (By the way, I assume they are chords, and not just notes.)

There is/was a Delta Faucet commercial that used an instrumental from the 60's as background music... Wipe Out by The Surfaris. It has a heavy beat. Could that be it?
