Ok I agree with that. The second one was not very good so I have not read the third one.
My daughter is 10 and last year devoured The 39 Clues series. Also, recommend My Weird School series.

My oldest daughter always grumbles when she is assigned a book to read. (she is picky to say the least) She was assigned a book entitled Deep Dark and Dangerous and she loved it. Deep and Dark and Dangerous by Mary Downing Hahn | Scholastic.com
Also think a book of short stories such as 50 Great Short Stories by Milton Crane, or other would provide ' many worlds'.

The Giver by Lois Lowry is excellent as a standalone book and as part of a 4-book series. I read this back in elementary school and LOVED it. I recently revisited it as an adult and learned Lowry wrote another 3 books to complete a quartet. I thought they were all pretty good, but the first is the strongest. The last one was excellent as well.
Marsha, Harlan Coben has a new series out from young adults. I do not know if you have ever read any of Cobens books but he is one of the best authors writing today, in my opinion.

The Riyria Chronicles by Michael J Sullivan. I just read the first book of the series "The Crown Towers" and it was a very good read.
Wow...elementary school?.. My son is reading this now for English. He likes it but hasn't finished it. I have mixed emotions about this story.
Scott Westerfeld's 'Uglies/Pretties' series. Brilliant reads for teens or anyone.
