I didn't know that he came on here. Awesome. Did you say anything to him?

I thanked him for correcting my misinformation, and wished him well on the project. Honestly, I thought that was real classy of him to make the time to create a profile and post here just so he could share that info with us. He also ended up sharing some tid-bits on his New Mutants film when another user inquired about it. He also posted that he is committed to making a film (of The Stand) that the fans would be proud of. His heart is definitely in the right place, I'll say.

Christine - as much as I liked the first film and acknowledge that it left out a fair amount of story, I'm not sure how another adaptation would work. It's hard to see anyone taking a haunted-car story seriously now, so they'd probably have to go full-retro on it and make it an 80s-film. I can't see Christine working in this age of social media, cell-phones and information-overload. That said, I think Carpenter's film is a such a wonderful little rock n' roll nugget in the horror genre (story shortcomings and all), and no CGI will ever replace that incredible scene of a car on freaking fire and chasing that dude down the street. That scene still blows my mind every time I see it.
I agree. I love Carpenter's film and the score. It'd be difficult to create another movie with as many cars as they used. It'd be too expensive to use CGI, I'm guessing. My idea was more pie in the sky daydreaming. I wanted to see the highschool drama unfold with Leigh and Dennis and Arnie and Repperton...like in the book, but I admit most of it has been overdone in Hollywood shows. I'm satisfied with what we have.

That's a relief to hear.

We're on the same wavelength here. I say leave it alone. I'm also happy with the film we got. Same with Cujo.

Duma Key, Needful Things and The Stand. The Stand needs to be developed into a series because there's so many characters and storylines that shouldn't be truncated into little vignettes that don't convey the circumstances or emotions deeply enough. Same with Needful Things- I saw the movie in the theater when it was released and while I thought it was done well, there's still a huge amount of story that could be mined for a miniseries. By the way- why isn't the Dark Tower story up in the list?

Right, so here are my choices.

Cycle of the Werewolf - I've long maintained that this is one of the few SK adaptations that deserves a remake. What they need to focus on is the aesthetics, which would blend right in with the book's theme of changing seasons. You want a limited series with a gorgeous, distinctive look? Put Bryan Fuller in charge of it. Look at his Hannibal TV series for reference, as well as American Gods. And the werewolves MUST be practical effects (with just the right touch of CGI embellishment), designed to look like the Wrightson drawings. Drag Rick Baker out of retirement for this one.

Duma Key - a fantastic book with a whole lot of story that deserves a limited series over a two hour film. Bryan Cranston's always been my pick for the lead, as he has the right blue-collar appeal for the main character. After watching Godless (Lord how I loved that show), I'd also throw Jeff Daniels in there for the lead or Wireman.

Firestarter - I don't mind a remake, but it will draw inevitable comparisons to Eleven's story in Stranger Things. Still, the movie wasn't a good adaptation, so I wouldn't mind a revisit.

Here are some thought on the other choices.

The Talisman - the best HBO series that HBO hasn't optioned as yet.

The Stand - it's currently being developed by Josh Boone. He was kind enough to show up on this forum to share some info on the project, including correcting some misinformation I had posted (based on an old article I read). I'm very interested in seeing what he has planned for us.

Joyland - would be perfect for a done-in-one Netflix film.

Needful Things - wouldn't mind a series, but it's not high on my wishlist.

The Tommyknockers - didn't like the book enough to want to see another adaptation.

From a Buick 8 - didn't enjoy the book, not interested in a film.

Christine - as much as I liked the first film and acknowledge that it left out a fair amount of story, I'm not sure how another adaptation would work. It's hard to see anyone taking a haunted-car story seriously now, so they'd probably have to go full-retro on it and make it an 80s-film. Doctor Sleep - regardless of platform (cable tv, film), I've always wondered how the heck this will work. It's a continuation of Danny's story in The Shining yes, and will no doubt be marketed as a sequel, but sequel to what? Kubrick's film, that one that King famously hates and takes huge liberties with the story, or Garris's mini-series, a faithful retelling hampered by some questionable casting (I'm looking at you, annoying little kid) and pacing issues? That's a conundrum right there. John Cusack has openly expressed his interest in playing the adult Danny, by the way.

Interesting thoughts, and I agree with you on just about everything...except John Cusack and The Stand. After Cell, I couldn't get excited about him playing a toilet brush in a Scrubbing Bubbles commercial. He's lost what ever he had. And Boone is a weird choice for The Stand. Not too chuffed about that one, either. (P.S. Wireman is Jimmy Smits. That is all :D )

Great points. I need to think on this a while.

Joyland and Doctor Sleep I would like to see made into movies. I would also like to see an updated and more violent version( with bad/evil werewolves) in Cycle of the Werewolf. I'd make it urban, not sort of rural like in the book.

I like Jimmy Smits, too, but couldn't tell by your post if you were serious. ;-D
I didn't have a specific actor in mind when I read Duma Key but sometimes I got an image in my head of the guy who played in No Country For Old Men. Josh Brolin.

I always pictured this guy while reading the book:

Tommyknockers and Needful Things are obvious choices i think. Complex stories that need a series to give the story credit. Then i go with Duma Key for my third choice. The Stand could probably do with an update too.
