My almost 14 year old daughter would like to start reading king. Her 1st choices pet cemetery and Tommyknockers. I think she can handle it but would just like some opinions as I don't read thriller or horror. Thanks.
What about Carrie? I agree with the others about Eyes of the Dragon and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - both very good stories!

I love Tommyknockers, but it not be the best introduction to King- it's very verbose. Pet Sematary is extremely dark.

I would recommend Firestarter, Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, Misery, Joyland.

I first read King when I was 14. My first novel was Misery, followed by Christine.

Welcome to the boards. 'Salems Lot was my first book at around that age.
Hooked for life after that.

I don't think you can go wrong with "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" because it's fiction that can easily occur in real life, and it's not nearly as nasty as many "real world" things occurring in this country daily. Truth can indeed be not only stranger than fiction, but darker too.
