It's the mass market paperback edition but I don't believe there is any new material included. I think the two book release has more to do with the size not being conducive to a single volume release so they've broken it into two parts. I've seen this done a lot with other books by Stephen in the foreign language editions.

Ah...so they're releasing the entire piece in two parts. From the new cover, I thought Marvel had begun a graphic novel approach, or something! Hmm. Much as I love to stock and stack the King merch and "odd" volumes, my big ol' eight pound hardcover is holding up nicely.

I think they may be trying to catch some of the people who have been watching the CBS series and didn't previously own the book.

I said this elsewhere, but I feel that issuing Under the Dome in two mass-market paperbacks is more of a money grab for the publisher. The Stand was issued as a single volume, yet it is longer than Under the Dome.

I guess the publisher is cashing in on the popularity of the TV series - makes sense. Buy volume I and then save volume II for another special occasion i.e. as gifts to your spouse or whatever.
(You don't have to buy them as a set, do you?)

I believe part 2 is releasing tonight, at 12 oclock ( or pretty much on Mar 25th ) !!! Online on Walmart's site that's what it claims, and people on Facebook are talking about it. I personally only have the paperback you all are talking about, Part 1, so i'll definitely be buying it, along with the big heavy full length hardback if I can ever find one. I just hope our Walmart has it out tonight or in the morning, I'm going to hound them until I get it in my hands!!

I have the large type edition of Under the Dome - the thing is awfully heavy!

How is the new one different? It is basically the same story? It is not based on the TV series, is it?

The only difference I am aware of is that it was split into two volumes. The text itself is the same as the original, not the TV series version.

So far today no sign of the 2nd part in our local stores.
