If I knew where I could get some of that stuff legally Lepplady, I would try it out on Andy. He had cancer seven years ago and lost half his tongue (oral cancer). He has not been able to gain any weight since then, so maybe it would help him.
It would ABSOLUTELY help him.
If you want to talk about it, please feel free to pm me. :)

Speaking of oil, anyone ever hear of oil pulling? I started doing this every morning about three months ago and I'm addicted for life. It's an ancient practice that reduces plaque, bacteria, and infection in the mouth and whitens teeth. It really makes your mouth feel so clean and wonderful! Many believe it also removes toxins from the blood, clears the sinuses, gets rid of asthma, etc.. Now you don't use fish oil. Most people use coconut oil. First thing in the morning, before you brush your teeth or drink or eat anything, take one tablespoon of oil and gently swirl it around your mouth for twenty minutes-- if your mouth gets tired you're doing it wrong. When the twenty minutes is up, spit the oil out… don't swallow it-- it's gross! Rinse your mouth with water then brush your teeth as usual; your mouth will feel amazing. There is a ton of info. about it online; just google "oil pulling".

Can you use any kind of oil? (Well obviously not 3-in-1 or motor oil haha).

I have olive oil, canola oil and corn oil. I normally do not buy coconut oil but I might do so if it tastes better.

I cannot imagine swirling olive oil around in my mouth for 20 minutes but I might be able to manage corn oil.

I also have sweet almond oil that I use in my bath bombs but I would have to check to make sure it is edible first.

Did you keep it in for 20 minutes right from the first or gradually work your way up to 20 minutes? I would probably be afraid that I might accidentally swallow it!

I exercise like a fiend - 2 days of strength training, 3 days of cardio and I'm adding yoga this year. Maybe it's that I'm losing estrogen as I stumble and trip through menopause (I'm right there with you sister!).

I finally started taking two millgrams of estradiol (four bucks at walmart) and it has been a life safer--supposed to protect against Alzhiemers

I first started out with olive oil. It cleaned my teeth and mouth very well but didn't whiten my teeth so I switched to coconut. My teeth are really whiter since I started using it. Cold pressed oil is said to be best-- sesame oil, sunflower oil, and coconut oil are the most recommended. Coconut oil tastes good, although you don't ever actually swallow it. I didn't have any either so I bought a jar in the health food section of the grocery store. I read online that some people do use almond oil. I started out at twenty minutes but I'm sure you can build up. This one article says that twenty minutes is pretty much just the right time to draw all the yucky stuff out. If you do it for less than fifteen minutes it's ineffective and if you do it longer than twenty minutes you run the risk of reabsorbing the bacteria and toxins back into your body. First thing when I get up, I put a tablespoon of coconut oil in my mouth, set the microwave timer for twenty minutes, and start swirling! I got used to it quickly. It's a nice, mellow way to wake up and, like I said, it really makes your whole mouth feel great. Look it up, though, for more information… it's all over the web!

I'll bet there are plenty of Not-A-Morning-Person people who would appreciate their Morning Person's mouth closed for those 20 minutes.:apthy:

I had no idea you could get that w/o a prescription. Is it safe? I'll look into it because my memory is horrid and there's no real reason for that. Unless it because I live in my head most of the time and don't really pay attention to what's going on around me, which might be closer to the truth.

Thanks Autumn - I'll definitely look into this. I think maybe sesame oil would taste good but I could go for coconut oil, too! :tongue-new:

Yup - guilty as charged. I used to be a morning person but as I get older I am becoming quieter in the a.m. Andy is gone for most of the year anyway so it's a case of me only bugging him for a little while then it's back up North he goes.

It is ...the new estradiol is not made of horse urine but a plant extract--and you do have to get a perscription --talk to your doctor. As far as your memory I just found a book at the library called : 100 SIMPLE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT ALZHIEMERS -- Jean Carper - 100 Simple Things You Can Do To Prevent Alzheimer’s --It has a lot of great stuff in there like, for example, eat at least three apples every day because apples have a component that mimics Arecept (the Alzhiemers drug) in your brain!
