What I'm trying to say is that any time I'm in the city I see these old delivery trucks spitting out this black smoke but no one seems to be talking about banning those. It's easier to pick on smokers than commercial shipping I guess.

Somehow those emissions laws seem to leave enough loopholes for dirty smokey trucks, at least from what I've seen on the streets!:grey:

It was just passed and it's going forward. You can't make the world a better place in one day!

I have successfully quit using e-cigs. The benefits have been amazing. My chest is clear, I don't cough anymore. I don't smell. They are completely odourless. Nicotine in it's pure form is no more harmful than caffeine. It's the "combustibles" in cigarettes that are carcinogenic. There are absolutely NO combustibles in an e-cig. I am grateful for e-cigs. I've been done with cigarettes for almost a year now. Go me. :)

and they changing those to. I haven't driven one yet but the newer trucks that are coming out have better emissions and use a certain additive/or something to prevent them from blowing black smoke. And many states have passed idle laws in certain types of area so more trucks are having auxillary powered units mounted, that way the driver can still have their ammenities (heating, cooling, fridge, etc) and not have to run the motor of the truck. there by reducing noise and pollution, also consuming less fuel.

Feef's post reminds me of this once, get on the bus at the Transbay Transit Terminal, San Francisco, going to Treasure Island (before it went condo)...some others get on the bus. I sit amidships. Guy up front in a Smokey the Bear hat, shiny boots, uniform...security, I think, at Treasure Island. Across the aisle from him an older man, white hair, small dog in his arms. We're on the bridge when the guy w/the dog turns, stares at Smokey, an unlit cigar between his lips, and says, "Put that thing out!"

Smokey returns his stare, replies I'm not smoking it. Put it out! I'm NOT smoking it! They hold this position, dearly, and provide the other passengers variations on the theme and after a time they stand in the aisle. The driver pulls over at the exit...parks, idles the bus, turns in his seat. The old gent looks toward the front, see! it says NO SMOKING! Smokey turns to the front says It says no pets allowed! The driver appears ready to stand, the two men continue but they take their seat...the driver turns in his seat and we continue around the exit when the old gent reaches over and grabs the cigar, slides a window open, and tosses it out. Smokey grabs the small dog, tosses it out the window.

Pandemonium. Crowd approval. Howling. Foot-stomping. Demands to stop the bus. We stop, all turn, and we watch behind us as the small dog comes running up to the now opened door...and you'll never believe what the dog had in his mouth:

    an e-cigarette

    no...not really:

    one brick

actually, they both got off the bus and we left them there in the exhaust.

Congrats Mia - if it helped you quit, then I say we should allow them. If it is a smoking cessation aid (like the nicotine patch or the nicotine gum) then I am good with this. (as long as I don't have to sit beside someone with an e-cig between their lips). (Do they smell as bad as cigarettes do?)

    Oh good - thanks mustangclaire.

This reminds me of something awful that happened with a bunch of guys in the military. They took a dislike to one of their roommates and peed in his kettle as revenge.

How horrible is that, eh? I hope he did not plug it in without checking the water first. Can you imagine the smell?

Some military people, for all their discipline and brotherhood chatter can be very mean. Especially to females. Lots of abuse running rampant and unchecked in the military in regards to sexual assault of females. It's disgraceful.

I don't know if it still is, but when I was in it was "an old boy's club" - they all stuck together. Very traditional and macho. I am glad I had the experience but I am hoping they are somewhat more enlightened these days.
