Salem's Lot sounds like a good choice And maybe Skeleton Crew too. Skeleton Crew contains The Mist (novella) and some pretty good short stories. I loved The Mist

The Gunslinger with a side of Everything’s Eventual

The Gunslinger isn't a very long book, so it won’t intimidate a new reader: The Gunslinger isn't horror but more of the categories of Western, Science Fiction, Fantasy. I think it’s good to introduce Stephen King’s potential in writing other genres than his type cast horror author stigma.

Everything’s Eventual is a collection of short stories (also not intimidating to a new reader) and has good scary stories.

I'd go with "The Long Walk", with the story being about a group of young men of very much his own age, he should readily identify with the worries and fears they face.

I love the illustration!

I'd go with the Long Walk too, at 15 he will be blown away. And if he wants scary: Pet Semetary.
