I turned 70 in December. I've been collecting since I was 15 or 16, and King since about 1980. I lost the vast majority of my collection (hardcovers, magazines and paperbacks--about 20,000-30,000 items) when my basement flooded when a remnant of a hurricane hit our area about 15 years ago. Luckily, my almost complete collection of Weird Tales magazine, my almost complete set of Arkham House books and all my King books were upstairs at the time. I sold the Weird Tales magazines and the Arkham House but have kept the King items.

John
Oh man. I am sorry you lost so many things! How devastating.

And I have sooooooooooooo personally enjoyed them. I was disappointed when you ran out of film a bit ago.
Just watch your step around me, Mister; that's all I'm sayin. I know you're not swimming in the green, but I also know you have a nice, deep, refreshing pool of books I'd like to take a dip in.
Everybody just wants me for my books.......;;D

I hope you had everything insured!! My worst nightmare is coming home from work and finding a smoldering pile of ashes.

No, no insurance--not even for the house. I didn't have flood insurance (I'm not in a flood zone). I live on a slight slope, but the water came down so heavily that it floated one of the landscape timbers, which crashed through a basement window. We ended up with about 6-10" of water.

John
Oh man... I'm so sorry to hear that.

Ohhh, what a nightmare! I think anymore there is not a place in this country that hasn't become a flood zone, what with all of the weird weather we've had the last ten years or so. Makes ya go 'Hmmmmmm.".

With all the raining there have been several level 3 floodwarnings for many of our rivers. But noone really take them serious because we never really had a serious flood. At least not close to the cities. I think humans don't take things serious until it actually happened.

Stephen was recently interviewed for the NY Times column By the Book. You can read that here.
NEATO! King likes Sanford Novels. I read one of kings books where the character puts down a "Davenport novel" and I wondered is he just saying that because its popular or is it because he reads them. What about Jack reacher being included in Under the DOME does anyone know if actually likes reacher novels or was it just something that fit!!!!???

This was a pretty good read. I saw a Jane Austen recently and thought of this interview. I would have been interested to know how he prefers to read, print, audio or on screen or all above. Also, are there any audiobook readers he prefers or how he prefers his audio book readers. I personally can't stand someone who is monotone throughout the whole listen. Frank Muller who did "Apt Pupil' was amazing. He did everything so perfect. I guess that's another question. How he chooses the people to do his audiobooks or if he is even part of that selection process. However, that is for another article!

I started reading the Sa
ndford Prey novels because I saw a quote on the cover of one the paperbacks, from Stephen King, about how good it was.. That was about 20 years ago and I have read every single one since. In fact I'll be starting the latest one, Gathering Prey, this weekend, they are excellent..
