Finally I had some ”me time”, and watched Oculus. It turned out, sadly, to be just one more film to add to the long list of pretty predictable and not really scary so-and-so horror movies I have seen. It is a long list by the way.

Sometimes, the movie feels like The Shining (Kubrick's version) but without the intensity, sometimes it pulls towards The Ring, but without really being all that scary.

To sum up, I guess it's an OK movie to watch if you are bored or hungover, just don't expect any real chills or high jumps out of the sofa. The current rating at IMDB is 6.8, I'd personally give it 4.5 on a scale to ten.

I watched the movie last weekend, too. I liked it. No, it was not really scary, at least, not as scary as I was thinking it would be. But I liked the way the movie is done, the way they show the past and the present simultaneously. I was really excited to see the movie, it seemed very interesting to me (yeah, probably just for one time, but still). And I just like stories about mirrors... in fact, I am scared of them most :)

Thank you for asking, I am glad someone here noticed my absence... Actually, I just did not have enough time to come here lately, because of my job problems... That's kind of sad, I've been thinking all the time I should come here more often, but I either did not have time or was not in the right mood. I will try to start coming here every day again, this will make me feel better.

I just put Oculus on my watch list. Thanks for mentioning it :) I was sad when Rory Cochrane left CSI Miami so even if the movie is dumb, it will be fun to see Rory again :)

Welcome back! :) I'm a little slow :( I didn't realize I hadn't seen you around until last week when I saw a preview for the second season of Under the Dome. These are the final results for your survey "Who is your favorite guy in Under the Dome"
Barbie - 13 votes
Junior - 6 votes
Other variant - 3 votes

I hope you're able to solve your job problems soon so you can spend more time with us :)

It's predictable for sure, but I don't think that make's it bad. The film is actually directed well, the back and forth between flashbacks and the present was handled perfectly, the acting was solid.....The concept may be a little cheesy but Overall, I don't think you'll ever find a more well made film about a haunted mirror;-D

On a side note, for anybody interested, the director Mike Flanagan is currently set to direct the big screen adaptation of "Gerald's Game", and he also has a film called "Absentia" out there that I liked as well. Overall I think he's one of the better Genre directors to emerge in the last few years.

You are right about the director, I just thought of it after reading your post. Really, how great flashbacks are made in Oculus, that would be really useful for Gerald's Game, as we all know there is almost no action in the story and flashbacks are the only way to do it. If anyone can make a movie out of Gerald's Game, it must be Mike Flanagan.

I thought Oculus was quite good. No, it wasn't particularly scary, but I think those of us who have been around for a while are so jaded by horror films that not much scares us (I found the first Paranormal Experience very scary, and that was wholly based on anticipation, not actually showing anything very much).

But Oculus entertained me even if it didn't scare me.
