What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone actually done it? Or knew anyone that did?
Does it make you a loser for even thinking about it?

It seems to me that there are a lot of people who are alone and the day consists of work and home without a place to meet any other people. I admit that I have cruised some sites for fun and they range from hilarious to creepy.

If the SKMB is any sort of gauge - there must be some good people behind keyboards.

I met my husband on line 16 years ago, but, it was on a gaming site - mostly card games, specifically, Spades is what we played and how we met. I think the dating sites like eHarmony etc. might be a better way to go about it! Worth a "look see" I would think, but, have never used them. My son is thinking about it tho......

I know there are conflicting opinions about online dating just like there are conflicting opinions on politics and cigarette smoking. I've been on a few dates with women I met at dating sites, but I've made no lasting friends or had a lasting relationship that way. I think it's the right way for some people to meet someone for a lasting relationship, and that it won't work for others, depending on individual needs and those myriad things which make an individual an individual. I'm thankful to the world for inventing the internet which imho has improved life for people in terms of dating and finding a soulmate. But I think it's a new form which brings with it new rules, challenges, and drawbacks.

I was advised to try it after my wife died. She said "that i was a much too nice a man not to have someone in my life". (her quote, not mine i hasten to add. But it really never lead to anything so i stopped. But i do think that it is a good compliment if you are a bit cautious when it comes to which sites you are on and what things you say about yourself.

I think those sites (match.com, eHarmony etc.) are probably really good at putting people together with common interests, personalities etc. but we all know chemistry is key, and, you only know that if it's face to face (you can feel chemistry on line with someone, but it has to convey in person, or it's crap....)

Of course, everything has to work up close and personal. I think it's a true miracle that two human beings can find each other, fall in love, and stay together for years and years considering how damn many of us there are on the planet and how different we can be from one another. It's a miracle.

I don't think it's all that rare, though, considering that people have been managing to do it for centuries. I realize that many couples break up, but many don't. I realize that of those that don't many would if not for various circumstances. But still that leaves millions of couples who stay happy together (not constantly happy, but after disappointments, arguments, return to one another). That's where the hope is. That's why anyone can believe a miracle is for them as much as anyone else.
