Oops... bad timing Mr. Derpp, I was just throwing a log on the fire. You're not (too badly) hurt, are you?

Crap... we're waaaaaay off topic.

Ummmmm... I would NOT like to see Johnny Depp as Roland, oh heck no. :barf: (topic-ish)

I feel as though I might owe you a peace offering......

Probably some of his best work and it hasnt been made into a movie, or actually a series of movies as you cannot fit it all into one. Maybe 2 books per movie so it doesnt water it down too poorly. And please use a good director and movie stars. Always thought Clint Eastwood would be perfect for the role although maybe hes too old now to want to. Next option would be maybe Johnny Depp. He seems wide abilitied and could pull it off. A series of movies with The Gunslinger and the Drawing of the Three being the first. Than The wastelands and Wizard and Glass being the second. And so on. Basically 2 books per movie with the final being 3 books. So 3 movies total. With a good director and good stars, like above. It should make a ton of money and be great.

Most of his books turned movies have been horrible. Partly because the producers and stars were ****. I'm 35 and have as big a fan of King as any. Ive read every single book, starting when I was just a kid and with Pet Semetary and IT and The Shining and so on. Read the first Gunslinger when I was a freshman in High School. And have read and own the whole series. Also own the majority of Kings Books. Theres a couple I dont but the majority i do.

Anyways. I think its a shame how poorly created Cujo and the like were made, than again it was a while ago so maybe movies just sucked in general. But if they can make great movies like Indiana Jones back in that time why such a piss poor creation of his books? Anyways just a small rant. But if theyll make these movies as I think they should, PLEASE get a good director and actors. Spielberg might like to take on something like this. The Gunslinger should be Clint Eastwood, or Harrison Ford if either is up to it, but younger like Johnny Depp might have to do. But dont get some second rate bum and some hack director. Do it RIGHT and the story and 3 movies will make a ton of money. And by a enjoy for us King and The Gunslinger fans to watch.

This is just one of my beggings to make a movie. Ive sent emails to all the major motion picture makers. Hopefully we can enjoy the movies at some point. Seems almost criminal NOT to make a movie about these great books. They make movies about every other dumb thing that some writers make up. They must do this!
Welcome to the board.

There's been a long history of filmmakers trying to tackle DT. From Wikipedia:

"Initially, in 2007 J. J. Abrams was connected to a film adaptation[20] but later revealed he had removed himself from involvement in the project.[21]On September 8, 2010, an official announcement was made that the series would be brought to both the big and the small screens via a trilogy of feature films and two seasons of a television series to bridge gaps between the films.[22] According to a press release from Universal Pictures from October 29, 2010, the first Dark Tower film would open on May 17, 2013.[23] On July 19, 2011, Universal pulled its support from the production of the Dark Tower films and television series. According to reports, the studio was unable to come to terms with producer Ron Howard.[24] Despite this, Stephen King remains confident Howard will see the project through with another studio, and Howard confirmed the adaptation is still on track, noting that HBO will now carry the television series portion of the project.[4][25] On March 13, 2012 it was reported that Warner Bros. is now interested in making at least the first film, and would be in prime position to green-light the TV element through its sister company, HBO. Russell Crowe, tipped to play Roland Deschain, is reportedly still on board. Reports indicated that filming may have commenced as early as the first quarter of 2013.[6] However, Warner eventually passed on the film.[26] Later, on April 10, 2015, it was reported that Sony Pictures and MRC will be going ahead with the first film in the series alongside a television series, using a reworked script by Akiva Goldsman, who worked on the initial 2010 proposal, and Jeff Pinkner.[27] On June 2, 2015, Nikolaj Arcel was hired by the studio to direct the film.[28]"

I'm afraid I can't share your opinion that "most" of the movies that have been made are horrible. There is no doubt that some adaptations are clinkers. But there have been a large number of films that at the very least are competent and in some cases superb. Some of the best adaptations in my opinion are (in no particular order):

The Mist
Dolores Claiborne
Stand by Me
Misery
Green Mile
Shawshank
Creepshow (not an adaptation, but still)
Christine
Carrie
Storm of the Century

While I understand why you suggest Eastwood or Ford for the role of Roland, I can't imagine either being up to the physical demands of the role. Eastwood is 85, and even a three-film project such as you propose would take him to 90. Plus, he hasn't touched Western material for nearly 23 years (Unforgiven), and that film has been widely seen as his valedictory speech to the genre. Ford is 72 and is already committed to a new Indiana Jones film and a new Blade Runner film, which will likely mean he's unavailable until 2017, at which point he'd be 74. That would take him to 77 or 78 by the end of a production cycle for a three-film DT series.

Bobbledrew. Thanks. Never knew they actually were talking about it. Crowe as Roland, hmmm that could work.
As for Clint Eastwood I guess its just becaise in my imagination thats how I see Roland. As Eastwood in The Good The Bad and The Ugly. Really hope they follow through.

Yes I was a bit quick to say most of the books turned to movies have been horrible. Pet Semetary was bad. Carrie horrible. Firestrater even worse. Yes some have been good Greenmile and Shawshank. It has to do with movies they actually put forth the effort. Everyone can see it. Im just hoping they put forth the effort with this. Good actors, good producer and it having Universal as making them thats a relief. Just didnt want the series to be s o me hack of b movie list. The series deserves better. Apologies to anyone who thought movies like "It" were good. It was mediocre. Honestly wish they would make a newer version. But the special effects in that time were pathetic compared to the imagination, even as a boy. Not that technology and special effects have advanced Id truly enjoy remakes of all the movies. I bet all would be a hit. Think about Green Mile and subtract even the small amount of tech, than subtract the stars. It easily couldve been a horrible movie. Guess this was my only point. Give it its due.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I will poke around a bit. Didnt know this site had this much lol. I was just hoping to have anyone listen to the idea of wanting a movie. :)

Hated IT. Hated it. Every commercial break the whole group of kids, grownups had to single file flee from whatever scene they were in to get their close ups.
