Just moved and spent today unpacking my books. I have three shelves devoted to King material and am trying to decide how to organize it (my husband thinks it is ridiculous that I am struggling with this and that I would go to an online forum for help- he just doesn't understand!)

I have a combination of hardback and paperback which complicates things. I'm considering sorting based on publication date (with the exception of the Dark Tower books which are shelved together as 1-4, 4.5, 5-7 and other sets would be together as well- Desperation/Regulators, the trilogy when I own all of them, etc.), but would need to do the hardback as a set and the paperbacks separately as my OCD tendencies do not allow for mixing them. Also debating separating the short story collections from the novels. I also have my books about King to shelf together, and some oddballs like the GWLTG pop up book.

So, what does everyone else do with their collection? Alphabetical? Dewey decimal system? :)

I just moved too, and got my SK books over here the other day. I tend to not want everything to be too organized, but I put all my hardbacks together, the DT series together, and the beloved secondhand paperbacks in no particular order. I did put the short story collections together.

Looking at my shelf of books makes me very happy

I have lack of space issues in my bookshelfes! I've had to revert to doublestacking them. That is, when the King pocketbooks is in their place they stand in two layers. One behind and one in front because the bookshelf is quite deep. It is not ideal because i cant see all of my books but at least they can find a place on the shelfes. But i know they are there at least. This is a method i've forced to use with other authors and genres too, both crime, SF and "regular" fiction.

Everyone posts these nice, tidy bookshelf pictures, and mine always looks messy in comparison. This picture of mine was taken a few months ago and there are a couple more books crammed on the shelf now. :) See? Only kind of organized.

Really impressive. I'm strictly chronological. The DT books are seperate, though. There are kinds of mixes of tall, small, hard and soft back.
