:cat: That fella across the way does look friendly. Jud his name? I'm sure I can make it across this blasted road. Those big trucks don't scare me t'all. :cat:
I’d only be afraid if it was a Caterpillar...

To be perfectly honest, how long the Board will continue is not a topic we've discussed in terms of his death or his eventual retirement (or mine). It is something I've been thinking about, though, and that discussion will have to happen in the not too distant future. Sorry that's not more reassuring that there's a plan in place--yet.

I've thought about that often but not due to Stephen's death, but your retirement.

Didn't SK say he was going to retire a few years back but then the writing bug bit him and he started writing again?

I'm not worried. SK will live a long long time and he will continue writing :) And Ms Mod will not be allowed to retire :)
The thought of sK going away permanently is one which I kind of autonomically ignore into a non-memory place. It's one I currently literally cannot deal with.

That day will come but it's a long way off. My sense of it is that he won't ever stop writing, but the day will come when he decides he's had enough of the business end of his career.

Totally makes sense. Doesn't make it easier, though. Out of the thousands of writers I've encountered in many years of reading, the only one I've feel even a tenth as passionate about is Steinbeck, and it's because both of them were/are so damned good at showing us who we are as human beings, and who they are. They feel like family (and now I made myself wonder if Mr. King thinks we're all a bunch of nutters--lol).
