Sorry to be the token cheapskate, but anyone know the exact date of the paperback release? The hardcover is too rich for my blood as of yet, so I need to start counting day until I can read this... (sure hope it's better than Joyland. (Is it?))

Any way you read a book, it's right
This is crime fiction, set to be a trilogy, if that helps. I can't say it's 'better' than Joyland (because I really liked Joyland), but it is a good story.
When I first started working for Steve, it was typically a year between the hardcover and paperback edition releases. It's now down to about 6 months, which is the case here. The hardcover came out in June of this year.Say WHAT? 2015, that can't be right? Does it usually take that long for the paperback version? (I rarely follow new releases, being satisfied to read a book a decade after everyone else). Oh, well, guess a used hardback will show up for a buck or two on amazon sooner or later.
What trilogy is that? And is Mercedes the first in the trilogy?
Sure, Joyland was good, but it wadn't no Dead Zone if you catch my drift.

Mr. Mercedes is the first in the trilogy. The sequel is titled Finders Keepers and will be released in 2015. Steve hasn't written the third one yet.
Like I said, reading books fresh off the printer is new to me.
Oh well, I'll catch that elusive Mr. Mercedes book sooner or later. They're probably scalping them outside Barnes and Noble.
Thanks for the info, mod Boy you must have the greatest job in the world.

Is this going to be released first in a trade (larger size) paperback first with a mass market one coming later? I'm guessing that Steve will publish his little french short story in it, too? Marsha, you don't need to use the zipper-face here, I'm just guessing that the story will see print in English here since it's the only book that hasn't been released in paperback and this seems to be the trend with a short story at the end of the books now.......Currently set for January 2015.
I can't answer that without using the zipper face.Is this going to be released first in a trade (larger size) paperback first with a mass market one coming later? Some days I do believe that.
The Talisman is still intended to be a trilogy but he and Peter Straub haven't been able to coordinate their schedules to write the last one.Did King ever write any trilogies before this (besides the Dark Tower melarky)?
...Dead Zone and Joyland are two completely different types of novels...despite a "carnival" link if you will, and dissing the man's Opus in the DT series is sure to win you friends...it may not appeal to you, but is anything but malarkey...Did King ever write any trilogies before this (besides the Dark Tower melarky)?
