Nope. If that person found out whatever thing I did, it's inevitable that it will become public. Why put it off? Better to admit to whatever it was and take away their power over you.

If it was a 'thing':
If I'd done it, I'd admit whatever it was and involve the cops.
If I hadn't done it, I'd tell them to do their worst and involve the cops.

If it involved a family member or friend and involving the cops = certain death for them...well, I, too, have a very particular set of skills.
(In that situation, you have to write off whoever they have and resign yourself to the fact that it's unlikely that you'll make it either. Anything more than that becomes a bonus so it frees you up. (I'm not eager to die but I'm not afraid of it, either. It's inevitable at some point, and why fear what must come?))

I understand wanting to keep whatever goofy thing you did secret, I do. But blackmail guy isn't going to stop asking for money.

I think I would do what was mentioned already. Get my goofy butt to the police and say "Rat Baztid is trying to blackmail me, I need your help." Have them set up a video sting thing and arrest him. Yeah, my secret would be out but I took control of my situation.

Nope. If it's some secret about me, they can scream it from the rooftops. I don't care what anybody thinks.

If it's to protect somebody I love, the kidnapper better hope s/he's crazier than me.
I'd offer ten times that much to whoever can bring me their still-beating hearts. If they're lucky. I might ask for them alive, so I can kill them in the most painful, leisurely way I can think of for scaring my loved one like that.
