She may have notes on her phone that she uses to help her with the report--like notecards that prompt her next thought?
Do the other reporters use paper to report?
I can't imagine any news director allowing a reporter to check her phone for anything other than reporting (when on camera).

The other reporters only have a mic. I feel like if she needs reminders maybe she isn't cut out for reporting on live tv. Admittedly, I don't know much about the job, but I do know that I've never seen anyone do that except this chick.

Are you sure she's not using it as a mini-teleprompter?
I've seen our local reporters in the field glancing at their phones instead of paper copy to read/remind them of the news story...not in the studio though...they use tablets then.

I can't speak to what's actually going on in these examples, but I do know that television reporters are trained and are directed to make sure that they do not give viewers the impression that they simply "know" the news. This is why talking heads on TV shuffle papers on their desks during breaks and sign-offs, even though they actually read tele-prompters.

Something that's been driving me crazy lately...the young reporter on our local station who keeps looking at her phone during newscasts. She has her mic in one hand and phone in the other and the whole time she's reporting, her eyes keep wandering to the phone. So unprofessional! Put it away!

I agree with danie. There are a few live reporters on my local station and they all do the same thing. They make good eye contact and tell their story but glance at their phone as if reading key notes (names, descriptions, etc.). Unfortunately, it's just how society is using new technology and it's hard for some of us "experienced" folks to get used to.

I've seen that on our local news channels, too. At first I didn't realize that's what was going on but then the penny dropped.

One of my biggest pet peeves are when people address me in the third person, as in:

My co-worker: "Hi, How's Summer doin' this morning?"
Me: "Jeesh, I dunno. How 'bout I ask her next time I see her."
*confused look on co-worker's face*
*exasperated look on my face*

or (as this is a daily routine)

My co-worker: "Hi, How's Summer doin' this morning?"
Me: "She's doin'."
*pleased look on coworker's face*
*eyeroll by me*

What annoys me is that it can be nice outside enough to wear a T-shirt and feel comfortable and then you go into a supermarket or a Library and they've got the air-conditioning on so you feel frozen after ten minutes. Why? I don't understand. They keep on banging on about climate change. Same in some clubs. It can be really hot outside and you want a cold beer and then you go in and sit down and in ten minutes you start shivering.

That's why I avoid religious or political discussions. I'm here to discuss Stephen King and things pertaining to his work. No offense to anyone that likes to opine on these threads. That's why I don't visit Facebook anymore, because of being ostracized for my beliefs.

It's because they want you to leave, after you spend money, asap to make room for the next customer.
