Something doesn’t smell right about this.

Rogers stressed that the identities of U.S. persons picked up through “incidental collection” – that being the way intelligence officials picked up on Flynn’s phone calls with Kislyak – are disclosed only on a “valid, need to know” basis, and usually only when there is a criminal activity or potential threat to the United States at play.

So apparently Flynn’s contact with the Russians was picked up by ‘incidental collection.’ And nowhere has it been put forth that anything he did was criminal activity or a potential threat to the United States, and therefore should not have been listened to, kept, or shared.

Rogers added that there are a total of 20 people in the NSA he has delegated to make decisions about when someone’s identity can be unmasked.

So am I to understand the person who leaked this information to the media can be isolated to these 20 people?

Rep Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) suggested that the leaks were political, stressing that the intelligence community and law enforcement community would not have been helped by the release of such information. He asked Comey if the intelligence community had shared such information with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, or Obama.

Comey would not comment on his conversations with Obama.

So, if none of these 20 people leaked the information about Flynn to the media… Who does that leave?

Comey did confirm that the NSA, CIA, FBI, main Justice Department and others – including personnel in the White House in some situations – could have access to unmasked names of U.S. persons.

So, if none of these 20 people leaked the information about Flynn to the media then I guess the investigation should be expanded to the NSA, CIA, Justice Department and the White House. Because as I understand things, incidental communications that do not represent criminal activity or potential threat to the United States should not have been shared. And if the sharing was done, then one can only be left to believe it was done in a matter to indicate surveillance had been conducted and and the result of that surveillance leaked to the media to make the Trump administration look bad.

There definitely was criminal activity afoot as it was illegal to leak this information to the media. With the relatively few number of people who had access or were told about it, the investigation needs to expand and lie detectors should be utilized for all… and all the way up to the top if they were told about it.

The poll sounds legit. We’ve been told a lot recently by our friends up north how they are far more civilized because of their open attitudes toward multiculturalism. But until now, they haven’t been forced to deal with many of those problems we in the US have been battling for a very long time. Facts now seem to be trumping myth. And the polls reflect the real life problems brought about by illegal immigration.

Fake news! Fake news! If it is good for the goose, it is good for the gander. There are some folks in Canada who agree with the Republicans and Trump. These are the people who speak out. If Trump suddenly sprouted horns and a pointy tail, some Republicans would still vote for him.

I think it's inevitable, that the powers that be, will request copies of 45's tax returns for the past few years. Then I think the story will get more interesting!

I just don't know if we'll ever see those documents in my lifetime. 45's hiding something, obviously. Don't quite understand why there's no uproar from the minions about this like there was during the Obama birth certificate thing.......:inspect:

I'm still bemused by the "facts trump myth" thing.

The EPA is a science-driven office. Data is clear that carbon dioxide trends have risen behind and in synch with the rate of industrialization, and warming has occurred in a correlative trend a few years behind that. Renewable energies, waste reduction, reduced emissions are clearly a matter of science and data - but the messenger is being killed in favor of politics and conspiracy theories.

The OMB director has said there is no data to show that programs such as school lunches and community block grants have not been effective. He's either lying or willfully ignorant.

    Obama wiretapped Trump Tower.

Trump lost the popular vote because of illegal voters.

The parade seems endless. We have a Presidency that disregards facts and panders to the perceived political sensibilities of the "base" - even as his programs hand yet more money to the wealthiest and take yet more from the less well-off in society. Make no mistake, the weight of this budget is landing squarely on the shoulders of the working class and poor.

It's nonsensical to call this Presidential program "fact-driven."

Exactly! Pres. Obama provided a copy and there was STILL nonsense that the copy was fake.

I think what we now know...without a doubt....is that 45 and his supporters live in constant state of delusion. In their world there are no such things as facts. What others have to figure out....at least with regard to 45, is if those delusions are based in mental illness or if it's a deliberate attempt to circumvent some sort criminal investigation or what not.

Still over half of the folks in this poll....whatever poll is was...agreed with us taking them in. How can we say no to these people?

Did Rogers name Flynn in that discussion? I did miss a bit of it this afternoon, but whenever I was watching, Rogers did not speak details about a specific person.

If I missed it and he did say Flynn's contact was picked up by 'incidental collection' did he actually say there was no criminal activity etc.? Because, again, everything I heard from Rogers was that he would not answers specific questions about a person involved in an on-going investigation.

I have had a thought experiment. I have sometimes wondered, what if?

What if Trump or his team was directly implicated in Russian interference with the 2016 election?

What if Trump was shown to be enjoying emoluments from foreign countries, in direct contravention to the Constitution?

What if Trump's actions of putting unconfirmed people in positions of classified information was shown to be illegal and actually harmful to national security?

Would any of that be fatally offputting to his supporters?

Conclusion: No. The pool of partishanship and, sadly, gullibility appears to be bottomless. There will always be, Yeahbut or HowAbout or FakeNews! rejoinders

At this point, the story is not only about 45 and his habitual lying, it is also a story about how the entire Republican party (with exceptions) have flown over the cuckoo's nest. If anything, this presidency and this election cycle proves that our election process for House and Senate seats is flawed.

We have people who are more concerned with re-election than they are with protecting the country. For a party that continually touts family values, Christianity and financial common sense..watching all of these representatives tap dance around blatant lies and support building of a boarder wall to the tune of 3 billion (I think), is mind-blowing!

It's incomprehensible that Republican's can defend the possible de-funding of planned parenthood on the basis of abortion, yet in the same budget they want to cut back resources and restrict access to programs such as WIC and in-school meal programs. How the h*ll are these kids going to eat!
