I don't know, but I've heard the Japanese grow some very beautiful trees in a very small space. I imagine My Petition For More Space is one of the hazards of living close. Nice garden. 2-4 meters back? Half the garden? Locally here, one small city's government put the keebosh on something...growing chickens in town or something like that. Was out west this once, passed one of them beef holding pens? Urine? Ammonia? Oh, you bet. Can't imagine how'd anyone get used to living around that. That's what they make lawyers for...filing things...moving things along, or slowing things up. Get the crop in. Tell "them" to look over........there!

Are you kidding me? During the wars, people were encouraged to grow little victory gardens to feed their families. I would much rather see a nice little garden than a yard filled with weeds and broken down cars. (America loves to park clunkers on their front lawns.)

Some neighbour complained about it. What makes people so damn cranky and horrible, I wonder? The earth is there for us to sustain ourselves. A garden will not hurt you. A garden is a caring place. I find beauty in a red pepper lol.

I wish you were near...to try my best beefsteak tomatoes and peaches n creme corn. I got peas this year, too.
I love gardens. They are beautiful to me. This is the first year in many I did not plant one. i've been having some health issues, and with the heat... blech! I just couldn't do it. And, the Bible says according to my brother (Jesus's right hand man) that you should leave your land fallow every 7 years. So, I just thought I'd go with that.

Nothing like a fresh tomato out of the garden! I've never had peaches and creme corn.

It has a nice sweet taste. The kernels are yellow and white.

They're sometimes called bread and butter corn.

...I'd love to try your tomatoes if you know what I mean*waggles eyebrows*...sorry Sweets...couldn't resist:)...anyway, as to why people act like this? Some individuals are under the mistaken assumption they are the keepers of the human race when in reality they're just miserable bastards who want to make themselves feel better at the expense of others feelings...

Yeah! What was this pretty garden hurting? How was this directly making her life horrible?

Since I'm in Ottawa I have heard LOTS about this story. The one thing that hasn't yet been made clear is that they planted right up to the sidewalk, and that they built raised beds with boards.

The first few feet of most urban lots are not solely the property of the owner. Most cities have an easement, and that means it must be able to access what's under there. The city also raised a safety issue with the boards, citing the possibility of someone colliding with them (think a kid on a bike).

The city was a bit hamfisted in their reaction (DOWN BY JULY 30) but that has since moderated, and the position of the homeowners has also moderated. True Canadians all. ;-)

Okay, I can see the easement thing, but did they need that easement right this minute? They need to use that space right this minute? And the boards, if some stupid azz kid collides with them, then he best do it and decrease the surplus population. ;;D:laugh:
