Penny wise and Pound foolish. What's the one item you ever spent money on and regretted afterwards? Mine was a Patagonia fleece jacket. I just wanted a fleece jacket. Hell, I heard they make them out of recycled plastic bottles. I picked the one that fit and took it to the till. I was gobsmacked when it was rung up at over $190.00 after taxes. I was too embarrassed/proud to leave in disgust. I still wear that jacket and I don't like it and it hasn't held up well. Oh, and 8-track tapes. I bought a lot of 8-track tapes back in the day.

Can't think of anything, off the cuff

Had to go look up Patagonia fleece jacket - looks like you bought it at MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) - well I guess the price is to offset the cost of all that recycled stuff their building is made of?

I'm pretty thrifty overall - think I got that from my Dad who was the ultimate penny-pincher

Have a great day mal !

The worst automobile purchase I ever made was an Eagle Vision (mid 90s). Eagle was a Chrysler owned brand at the time and this car was very similar to a certain Dodge car that I can't remember the name of. I bought this vehicle new and it was great for about a year and then things started going to hell. The car was discontinued not long after I bought it which caused it's resale value to plummet causing me to be extremely upside down and making it a problem to get rid of. I should have just cut my losses and dumped it at a huge loss but since I didn't want to take the loss so soon, I decided to hang on to it for a while. This strategy cost me a fortune as I ended up replacing things that should not have gone bad on a car that wasn't too old. I replaced the transmission at 37,000 miles (yes there was a warranty that was good until 36,000 miles), I replaced the Rack & Pinon steering not long after that. I even had a major repair on the drivers side seat as it broke from the rails that it slid back on forth on. Those are just the highlights, there are more. I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $22000 for it and traded it in for $3000.00 when it had around 60,000 miles on it (and the dealer was being kind). I've had extremely good luck with most of my vehicles but this one evened things out.

Expensive wedding dress. Seriously, no dress is worth hundreds of dollars (I think mine was around $700--cheap, nowadays, but expensive then), especially one you'll (hopefully) only wear once. My cousin's now ex wife wore it after I did, but still... hundreds of dollars for a dress that has been sitting in my closet for 25 years (along with the First Communion dresses & veils)? Ridiculous.

Back before I had kids, I went shopping with my (now) mother-in-law for a dress to wear to my (now) brother-in-law's wedding.
We went to some boutique that didn't have price tags on the gowns (should've been my first clue...what's the saying? "If you have to ask, you can't afford it").
I saw a beautiful gown and took it into the fitting room. It fit like a glove. Went out to show MIL and everyone was oohing and aahing so I decided to buy it.
It was $445.00.
I paid for it, and left the store in shock. Granted, it was my own money that I worked for, but I still felt embarrassed telling my (now) husband how much it cost.
I only wore it once. It still fits and is hanging in my closet waiting to be worn again, but I never go anywhere formal anymore.
Anyone want a size 4 gown? Special SKMB discount! :D

A '60s-style plaid sports jacket (modern cut) from Banana Republic, it was two hundred and fifty bucks. A safer bet would've been a more classic jacket or some other purchase. Even though I liked it and wore it occasionally to work it was just too much money.
