Only SK can produce such emotions! This may be morning reading, not before bedtime! How many days till the 11th???

Definitely, although it's one that will stay with you. It's been a long time since I read it and it still haunts me. Steve told me that David Morse did a really good job reading the audiobook version so have been thinking about listening to it to refresh my memory before it comes out but still not sure if I want to revisit it this soon.

I like David Morse a lot.

Steve's comment was that his low-key, calm voice was a nice counterpoint to the story's plot.
As an actor he's got a subtle intensity; there's a fire ready to scorch. I really liked him in The Negotiator and The Langoliers, and he was a great supporting actor in The Green Mile. I'm glad he's involved himself with this sK project. I hope he can be involved in future ones.

I've been feeling concerned about reading it too. After reading the excerpt yesterday I was leaning towards reading it because it caught my interest (of course.) But after reading this thread I am not sure again. I love SK stories but I don't know if I need something that dark in my life.

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting really scared to read Revival. If, like Brian says, this site is "Sesame Street" compare to the book, I am not sure how I wiil get through it.:O_O: I am hoping there will be consoling available for us after reading. I guess that's what's on the "Other Side" part of the site???

Haven't read the excerpt--I've been toying with the idea, but it's so nice to go into a story 'clean'. I expect the story strength of a mature writer, and probably a open-eyed view of the world; with the exception of Mr. Mercedes (TBH, that felt like a 'lark' book to me--gimmicky, but in an okay way), that's the direction Mr. King has been going for quite a while. I'm interested (and keeping in mind that some of the 'it's so dark' may be sales hype)! Unfortunately, I had to promise not to buy it the first day--kids have planned to get it for me for Christmas. I might cry on the 12th.

Haven't even considered reading the escerpt!! When it comes to King it spoils a little of the fun for me. I like to go in unaware and then he socks me in the eye. Point is not having a clue what to expect. And i pity Skimom and Diabolic who have to wait to read it. All the way to Christmas... Must be turture .... A kind of scratchy feeling that spreads over the body and increases in intensity with every day. Hang in there

Just to clarify, I'm SINCERELY not trying to hype the book with Prepare. Yes, it IS a market tool. But, I want you and the fans to know that Revival is not about zombies, serial killers or f'd up clowns with a taste for little kids. This one is about the very core of the human spirit. What you believe about life and death and how there is so much beyond what we know as humans. Are you ready for it? Probably not. (Sorry to sound like a jerk.) This one is special offering that it frightens in a way that is just not like the "Uncle Stevie" you know.

As one who was raised in a strict Catholic religion and schooling until High School, when I questioned the nuns and organization, I am eager to read this book. Over the years, I've studied other beliefs and found great comfort in The Tao. I was fortunate to have a Native American friend who showed me yet another side of beliefs/ thoughts on life and yes after-life. How will it change how I feel, or think I feel about all the topics mentioned? Bring it on Uncle Steve- this is one constant reader who awaits your newest offering.
And Brian- the Prepare for Revival has my friends- world wide- talking about all the posting. Thankee.

For me it was the very ending that caused the most visceral emotions. There were, of course, hints along the way that it was leading to something big but I could never have imagined what it was.

As I said elsewhere, this HAS to be King's darkest book he's ever done. I will probably reread it when the trade edition comes out on the 11th, but I am having second thoughts about it. I may just wait a while longer. It's that disturbing.

I'm actually encouraged by that view. It seems like Mr. King has been heading for a 'dark night of the soul' for a while (I hope it's just in his writing, not his life, but getting older...yeah, I feel a bit of that myself); it would feel wrong for him to shy away. I think that's why Mr. Mercedes was a bit jarring--it broke his trend. Not saying that I didn't like it--I did--but it felt...minor? Patterson before he completely punked out as an author? The depth that I've come to expect since Lisey's wasn't there. It was fun, though :)

Damn. Do I want to be ready for this tome?
I thought Lisey's Story was brilliant in its blackness and cruelty.
Does this go beyond that?
