Hi everyone,

Newbie here. I know that SK is very meticulous in his research and I am trying to find out about something he referred to in Revival. On page 204, last paragraph of the hardcover edition he describes a horrendous ear condition that left the person needing to sleep 10 to 12 hours and had worn him down to a pulp. I am curious how he researched that condition and showed the reader how devastating and all encompassing it was to the character. The reason I ask is that I think I have that condition and yet the ENT specialists at both Stanford and UCLA have not been able to pinpoint its origin and thus are unable to treat me. Mine is a waking nightmare so if anyone can steer me in the right direction to SK's research on this I'd sure be appreciative.

Welcome to the site. :) I'll just leave an alert for Ms. Mod, (Stephen's personal assistant) she may be able to help you with that.

I remember reading Sk's description of an ear condition he had as a child. I don't recall what book I saw it in.
(On Writing?)
Hi and welcome. If memory serves me correctly, SK mention in great detail his experiences with childhood ear aches, in his book ON Writing.
Yes, he did. I'm just wondering if the condition the OP is talking about, is something more specific? (I don't actually remember this part of the story in Revival. )

So does that Meniere's disease mean anything to you...same area of the story...we're talking Hugh here, right....the ear ringing? In On Writing King describes the Needle in the Ear Trick...or how-some-ever he labelled it, doctor sticking a needled in his ear to drain the pus...or something funky...happened more than once...this won't hurt a bit, he was told...and believed him. Heh!

Welcome River Walker - sorry to hear about your ear problems - sounds painful.

Stephen had a lot of problems with ear infections when he was a child and wrote about that in his book On Writing. When he has medical issues for which he needs research assistance, he usually consults with Russ Dorr, a retired physician's assistant. You may have seen his name in several of the books' acknowledgement section.
