I'd like to know if Mr. King ever sees himself in other writers? For example, I sometimes read a book and think that it is very much like his work. So much so that I sometimes forget who I'm reading. That happened with Irving's "A Prayer for Owen Meany" and with Clavell's "King Rat." Both books reminded me so much of King's writing that I kept reminding myself who I was actually reading.

And on the other hand is he conscious of his imitation of others style on occasion? In Dolans Caddillac the protagonist needed to find out a piece of information and the way he did it said John D. McDonald through a bullhorn. After that I began to notice other things and soon realized the whole thing could have been written by McDonald. It made for a damn fine homage.

John D. McDonald...my favorite Uncle, the one who got me into reading King, gave me a box of old paperbacks of McDonald just before he died. Told me they were some of his favorite books. I haven't read any of them yet. Guess it's about time to start.

I wonder, if SK could work with any film producer/director that he hasn't worked with yet, which one would he enjoy doing a movie of one of his books or stories with? And/or if he had a short story/book that he has always wanted to see made into a movie but hasn't yet, which would it be? :)

Your uncle was a wise man who loved you very much and you are in for a treat. I suggest the Travis McGee color series. The Deep Blue Goodbye is the first. I dare you not to read all twenty or so. If you want to taste first then try The Good Old Stuff collection of short stories. You just can't go wrong with McDonald. I wish I could read them all again for the first time.
