Rolling Stone Mag:
"It is with great sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts," the Bruce family wrote. Bruce's publicist added, "He died today at his home in Suffolk surrounded by his family." No other details were revealed but the Press Association reports that the bassist suffered from liver disease.

TMZ:
The singer/bass player's family revealed the news on his website Saturday morning ... and his rep tells us he died from liver disease. We're told he had been sick since January.

It's too young to die, especially for those of us who lived his legacy growing up.

But surrounded my family and leaving the body of work behind that he did for millions to have enjoyed and, for that matter, still listen to. When it comes to the end of your time, you couldn't ask for much better.

Thank you, Mr. Bruce.

He was a very big part of my musical upbringing, a formative member of my favorite band at the time, which was a very formative time in my adolescence. He was a personal hero, as well as an iconic musician unlike any bass player before or since. A friend of mine, a bass player (was Starbuck's bass player - Jimmy Cobb - idolized Jack Bruce, and did his best to emulate Bruce's style, copied some his licks). I haven't been in touch with Jimmy since the news, but I know he feels as devastated as most everyone does about it.

Cream, West Bruce & Laing, and his work with Robin Trower won't be forgotten by me. R.I.P.

Liver disease... an unfortunate way to go for such an icon. What a shame. But he lived a long life and played with some of the best. Leslie, West, Robin Trower, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker... Some pretty talented guys. Can't ask for a much better resume.

I am gutted by this, and had no idea :( RIP Jack. One third of my favourite band ever.... Although I'm a die-hard Clapton fan, I always thought Jack Bruce was an amazing talent as well. Such a loss.
