Better get it quick as the Estate has already filed a lawsuit to stop its distribution.

....I enjoy his speaking voice as much or more than his singing.....weird maybe?......think it's because I've been in radio for so many years-where your vocal tone and delivery becomes your "face".....Sorry if this has been posted, but I watched a new documentary on Prince When the Doves Cry last night and they showed a clip of this interview he gave to Larry and where he talked about writing Slave across his face. Very interesting, as I'm sure the whole interview is.
Prince is looking super cute here.
I love his speaking voice. It's not what you expect to hear from him- you'd think he would have a higher voice. I love to tell the story of when Prince sent a song to Celine Dion for her to record. He called her and when she answered he said (in his low normal voice): 'Hello, Celine, this is Prince. Did you get my song?' This was the first time she had heard his voice and was shocked. It's much funnier when she tells it as she drops her voice down real low when she's imitating him.....I enjoy his speaking voice as much or more than his singing.....weird maybe?......think it's because I've been in radio for so many years-where your vocal tone and delivery becomes your "face".....
My world changed the day that I was watching MTV and they played 1999. This was back in the day when MTV actually played videos. There weren't many videos back then so it was only a matter of a couple of hours before 1999 or Little Red Corvette came up on the screen. I would drop everything and just sit and watch mesmerized. By the musicianship. I knew that Prince was the 'One'. I never stopped watching- the videos, the interviews (far and few between), the performances at the Grammy's or other shows, the occasional award show appearances when Prince received or gave an award. Sure, we had Madonna and Michael Jackson, but no one reached into my soul the way Prince did. I recognized the musical brilliance that he possessed. He knew what he wanted out of life and he went for it. He stayed true to himself and the music. It was always about the music. Always. He was music. He taught me about 'love 4 1 another'. He taught me about 'real music by real musicians'. He taught me about being true to yourself and following your dreams no matter what. My world changed one year ago today. I was rocked to the core. I lost my brother. I lost my friend. I still hurt. There is a hole in my soul that will never be filled again until I meet Prince on another level of existence. Until that day I will cherish the memories and most of all the music. Prince's soul is there, in the music. It's ever so beautiful. I know that he has found the ladder. I wish you Heaven, my friend. I wish you Peace. I wish you Joy.
....wonderfully written tribute my gentle friend.....My world changed the day that I was watching MTV and they played 1999. This was back in the day when MTV actually played videos. I don't believe there has ever been another artist that was able to weave their religious beliefs with sex the way that Prince did. This really took off with the Lovesexy album. That's when he was able to finally mesh them together into a coherent form. He stopped singing about the sexual side of things after he became a Jehovah Witness, but even then there were a lot of veiled sexual references in the lyrics if you look close enough. Some nice pictures of Prince on the front page of IMDb today. I think you can tell from these especially that contrary to his reputation as a bit of a scoundrel (His Royal Badness), he was in essence quite a gentle person.
Actually I was wondering has there ever been another musical artist who had sex so central to his music, lyrics, image etc. I can't think of any, he is really quite unique in that respect. Sexuality is of course often used to sell musical acts, but with none it's also so central to the lyrics as with Prince.
Madonna comes to mind, she had an album called Erotica and a book called Sex, but even with her it's not so many songs about sex as with Prince.
(Also on IMDb a poll about redheads in cinema, including one very familiar to King-fans.)
Thanks, Scott, it's been a rough day today. Made it through. Just want to get my butt to Paisley Park in May for my birthday. That will be the epitome for me.....wonderfully written tribute my gentle friend.....
I did, too. He was one of the most beautiful humans that I've ever seen.Thank you, Danie. I used to have that first picture as a poster. Wish I still did.
I think Prince handled sexuality the same way he did everything else in his music: with exuberant openness. Sex is a part of life, and he celebrated it in a way that even his most sexual songs don't feel 'dirty'--he's not trying to offend anyone or being rebellious. Sexuality was just part and parcel of who he was, and you could take him or leave him. He loved God and he loved sex, with equal fervor--lol. How many people are such a perfect blend of the carnal and the ethereal? We all have both natures--he just revelled in both without constraint.I don't believe there has ever been another artist that was able to weave their religious beliefs with sex the way that Prince did. Thank you. I can't think of a single other musician whose death knocked me back as much--the only one even close was George Michael. Prince was something truly special in music--a Mozart for our age.Hit the nail right on the head, skimom!
