There are all kinds of copies of the original Bachman Books floating around. I know that at thrift stores around here, there is rarely NOT a copy on the shelf, and they're never more than $3. Heck, I have a spare soft back trade edition right now :) I lucked into a hardback copy not long ago--that took a while!

Just came back from a used bookstore where they had a copy of the newer trade paperback (published 1996, I think) with Rage in it and were asking $5.50 for it. There are copies out there, you just have to take the time to look for them. And, like Prufrock said above- if you want an original 1st printing paperback you're going to have to pay a couple of hundred for it.
Seriously? Now I need to check my trade PB--lol! I think it's an original, but not sure if it's a first printing. Obviously ,I know NOTHING about the value of books :p Thanks, KRF!

I was referring to the paperback original of Rage, not the trade omnibus edition that has all four Bachman books in it. Sorry for the confusion.

I just found out this existed! I have to have it. Simply have to, like food, like air. I wonder if I will understand why he banned his own book, or if I will just be disappointed and wonder what all the fuss was about.

I was checking here to see if the Rage in the Bachman books was an exact copy of the standalone novel. First edition copies of this are going for around a grand American which is like 2 million Canadian right now, LOL! The Bachman books collection is much cheaper, if it's the same story I'll go for that. I'm going to snoop around and see if I can find one local. I need this.

Hmm, maybe some small mysterious local shop has just opened up and happens to have a copy I can have for almost free, if I can just do one tiny, almost harmless prank, LOL. Just kidding... sort of. :p

You should be able to find a copy of The Bachman Books somewhere for a good price. The version of Rage is the same as what was in the original paperback, so no sleep lost there for you! ;-D

Well, in a few days I will be stalking the ever-loving crap out of a tracking number. I GOT IT!! I'm so happy!!!!!! My best friend let me borrow his card and I ordered it on Ebay for around $40 Canadian. That was after he checked his own book shelves for a copy, he likes James Patterson, but has a cute little King collection. No Bachman Books or Rage, nothing I haven't read or don't already own, but still. Cute. I am so satisfied right now. I can't wait to see my new precious! :)

Maybe this will help explain why SK pulled Rage:
However, the world started changing after King published the book. He asked his publishers to remove "Rage" from publication after the novel was linked to four real-life school shooting incidents:
  • In April 1988, a California student held his high school humanities class hostage before backing out and telling police he got the idea from "Rage."
  • In September 1989, a Kentucky 17-year-old held his classmates hostage for 9 hours in an apparent attempt to act out "Rage."
  • In February 1996, a 14-year-old boy in Washington state who was apparently inspired by "Rage" shot and killed his algebra teacherand two classmates.
  • In December 1997, a Kentucky 14-year-old fired on a prayer groupat his school, killing three, while a copy of "Rage" was in his locker.
  • Although King doesn’t believe his novel alone caused those four violent school shooting incidents, he regards "Rage" as a “possible accelerant” affecting people whose troubled backgrounds and psychological problems have already driven them to the brink.
“I pulled it because in my judgment it might be hurting people, and that made it the responsible thing to do,” King wrote.

Okay, so 1996, 1997, 1988, 1989, and all the perpetrators were either 14 or 17. That would make me a little freaked out... a little more than freaked out, actually. I'm not a suspicious person, but I just did the math, and in 2025 my son will be turning 14. I'm kinda really freaked out and I haven't even gotten the book yet. I don't know whether this is awesome scary, or burn the book scary. I might just read this and resell... I can't burn it. That goes against everything I believe. I'm actually legitimately creeped out, here. Geez.

Don't let all that taint you from the story that was written well before all that crazy happened.

It is a wonderful, but dark story about human nature.

Needful things indeed.

Its no holy grail harmony, and it aint gonna open a whole lotta crazy into your household when you open it. ( unless you say my life for you backwards three times in a mirror)

Infact, the character is quite endearing if i remember- not like the slasher f-kwits we see nowadays, who are just bloodlust xbox dooshbags.

Books dont kill people - unless they are bound by skin and want to swallow your soul :)
