Nice car..but I will take the '67 GTO Judge with the black cherry paint and black top..

No love for the foreign jobs? No Simkas? No Le Cars? My favorite car was my old '80 Volvo wagon!

I wasn't until later that I read in consumer reports that it was packing "the worst engine Volvo ever produced". And they were not kidding! But it was big. And hurled this 4000 pound Swiss behemoth from point A to point B with relentless power. I currently drive a Ford Wagon. Also red! Since Ford owned Volvo briefly I suppose me & it should be enjoying a delightful bromance. Not even. I get in, turn the key and say, "I hate you, you hate me. Take me to work." And it always does. But really I'd rather be driving an AMC Matador. Y'know, something purdy. Something real purdy.

I use 'works' all the time, speaking of King's body of work, in the same way I'd speak about Beethoven's works. (Classical music: opus=work).
I think I may have said "this or that book was his best work", as well. I don't see how that's pretentious. I like it because it can almost be used while referencing art from any vocation.
I understand your point with the other word but, as a writer, I've used it to describe bulky books like The Stand or It.
.....Steampunk Tome.....

I have always had a landline and want one forever! But 2 weeks ago my daughters bought me a cell phone,
a Sony experia, and I am having one hell of a time learning how to use it. I tried to make a call last night
and nothing happened. I pressed the number in my contact list and listened and no dial tone, no one
answering, nothing. So it's back on the desk until I figure out how to make a call. Pretty pathetic huh :hammer:
(I checked the volume and it is on)

My son bought a lovely iPhone for me. Knowing how technologically challenged I was, he showed me a few features and zoom I went! My point is, it may not be you. At least, that's how I like to think of it in my case. I had tried and failed to master several cell phones prior to getting the iPhone.

Well I watched the tutorial and it said a lot about apps and camera and setting up the phone with the sem card but that was it. So, the next time I talk to one of the girls (daughters) I will get them to walk me through it over the phone ( a land line :)) Still :hammer::facepalm_smiley:

Alexandra M there are several models of this cell phone. I did not watch the video and am sorry it wasn;t helpful.
This is something else I found. Note: you can google HOW TO/ or Owners manual to your model.

Scroll down the article until you see How to make a phone call.

The words 'works' and 'tome' when it comes to books/stories sound pretentious to me.

I used 'tome' in a recent post. If it sounded pretentious, I'm sorry. Pardon me all over the place, but that was simply the word that popped into my head while writing. I suppose I shoulda went back and dumbed-down my words, but, shucks, I do that sorta thing in real life so much, I kinda don't wanna have to do it here, too.

I like the word Tome, dang it. I don't take no lip from no editor neither.

(I'm just funnin our beloved mamaski, BTW, don't nobody go hacking on me)

My first car was a K-Car! G-d bless you Lee Iacocca.

It really didn't act as a chick magnet for me though. More like a ridicule magnet. But I loved it anyway. I've never known a car with such a shocking strong will to live. The Volvo by comparison was borderline suicidal. It was like driving Sylvia Plath around! Pep Boys constantly had to use heroic measures to bring it back to life. It was psychotic. I don't know what the Swiss did to it, but it had definite personality issues. But it looked cool. And I could have drove it thru a 'Stuckeys' at 80 mph and it would have come out largely unscavved(sp?)! Except for a few pecan log scrapes. What priceless piece of Detroit Americana are you taxi-ing around these days GNTLGNT? One of these? And blasting Billy Squire music I'm guessing.

In the 70s I drove an Olds 98. That car was like a Sherman Tank. During the 70s, folks in Houston didn't pay much attention to their surroundings while driving. I have no idea what that was all about. But there were a few times people plowed their cars into my Oldsmobile. They would demolish their rides, but left not a scratch or dent on mine. Weird.

I had an '84 Monte Carlo that was indestructible like that. I loved that car.

Mine was dusky blue with tinted windows and a sunroof.
