Ear? Oh gods no. Worst nightmare.
Several weeks ago, my mom found a tick embedded in her ear. Ended up having to be treated for Lyme disease (even though the ticks around here supposedly don't carry it). Had a blood infection that was in her lymph nodes. A few days later her eye swelled shut. Had to change antibiotics that thankfully started working quickly. Yes, a complete and total nightmare! I have always been completely terrified of ticks...but now???!!!

Healing vibes for your mom. Careful inspection daily for ticks. Make sure she takes the full duration of the antibiotic, do not stop if she feels better.

Yes, she is done with them now. But, her ear is still oozing a bit where the nasty thing was (sorry - gross). Bought her more Neosporin yesterday, but she will have to go in again if it continues. Thanks for the well-wishes Spidey. :love_heart:

Are they sure the got the entire tick out? They play nasty with the immune system. More healing vibes, and some calm ones for you. Be careful of the stress you have worrying about your mom.

Wow, that is so freaking terrifying! I'm really glad she's on an antibiotic that's working now... and thank goodness you were there to help her! (((Morgan's Mom)))

....I of course have no idea what she was prescribed, but if she needs another course-might I suggest Bactrim and Rifampin?....

Can't find the old prescription bottles anywhere. All I remember is that the last capsules were dark green on one end and light green on the other and had 500 mg printed on them. I wrote down the ones you recommended. Thanks, GNT! :love_heart:

...scratch that idea....did a little more looking and Keflex was appropriate but may need Doxycycline....unless it's a straight up skin infection-then my original suggestion is correct....

Heart of the South
I would love to hang out with you all anytime. I witnessed a gathering of online friends today. I had to help my boss with something, and that was part of it. They've all talked online for quite some time and they met up today. They had such a good time. There were only 6 of them, but they talked forever and they were so happy to be together. I have a feeling they will try to gather more often. It made me think of all of you. Anyone travelling south this summer? Hollah!

morgan Your sweet mom! I hope she's over that soon. I meant to send you PM a couple of weeks ago!!! I'm so sorry. I would think that oozing ear would be better by now, but it probably takes a while for your ear to heal - air and sunshine can't get to it. I'll keep her in my prayers.

....please go to Wally World braless AND pantsless....I will keep my finger poised over my Google link....:biggrin2:
I tried to find a funny and got stuck over at People of WalMart. Don't google braless and pantsless at WalMart. Plus beware the adware!
There's nothing appropriate to share!!

I opted for the Starbuck's drive thru. I asked for something in a pretty bag and they gave me:

Is very good, and gave me the shakes after 2 cups! Target heart rate accomplished by 6:15AM!

I hope your mom has a full recovery. Lyme Disease is terrible.

I've taken a few ticks out of my skin, and luckily I've always been able to keep the head intact when removing them (keeping fingers crossed). I usually use Deep Woods Off which contains 25% Deet. With ticks so bad this year I've switched to Coleman Insect Repellent with 40% Deet. In the last few years I’ve had three family members suffer debilitating problems from Lyme Disease caused by ticks, including daughter #3 who developed heart problems because of it. It can affect any organ of the body, including the brain and nervous system, muscles and joints, and the heart. I no longer take chances. I treated my property yesterday for ticks, and treat it every two months.
