This is reaching but here goes. As a pre teen, teen I read a book that I swear was called “The People”. It was about aliens who crash landed on earth after their world blew up. They had different forms of ESP etc and had to hide their gifts from locals. I can’t google the bloody thing anywhere except for a poorly made TV movie with William Shatner. Any know what I’m talking about?

Let me sleuth around the internet, if you were a preteen when you read it then I assume it would have to be published around or before the early to mid 1960’s?
I know of a book called I am #4 which fits the bill although you wouldn’t be a preteen when it was published
in this book a teacher discovered a colony of them and knew what they were because her college roommate had been one.
