"Come Watson, the game's afoot!" As you might surmise this is SK's tribute to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his best known creation Sherlock Holmes. However in this story Dr. Watson is the first to solve a lock roomed murder. The plot parallels another famous detective story "Murder On the Orient Express" as written by Agatha Christie and her creation Hercule Poirot. One thing Agatha and Doyle had in common was a distaste for their creations with Doyle killing off Holmes when he wanted to pursue other writing directions and after many years Agatha was finding Poirot "insufferable". Of course there's a danger in trying to bury your creation, can you say "The Dark Half".
