I saw that King posted he was going to be answering questions via Twitter on Thursdays, but I'm not sure if that is serious or not, since he added a funny thing about his dog. Plus, it's difficult to believe he would do that since I assume there would be so many questions.

If he is serious, then I find it puzzling. Why not answer questions from this board instead?

He must have shares in the Twitter. I was going to get the twitter but everything I want to say always exceeds the 140 character limit......

I'm hesitant to belittle Tweeter because I am only peripherally aware of it, but I've heard it described as "the bathroom wall of the 21st century," and the little I've learned about it does nothing to dispel that notion.

A character limit is probably a good idea, as it encourages concision (and brevity is, after all, the soul of wit).

The problem is that the ability to convey one's thoughts in a direct and effective manner is dying the death of a thousand cuts.

It's quick and easy (a source of Twitter's strength as well as its propensity for misunderstanding). Twitter is just a social media tool, like any other, and I get why he might choose to use it: no one expects a deep, meaningful conversation there, and there's instant response. Several authors use it very effectively to communicate with readers. Personally, I've had some funny or interesting exchanges with several authors I admire. Michael Grant, John Scalzi, Margaret Atwood, Christopher Moore, Joe Hill, Neil Gaiman, and Joanne Harris are the ones that immediately come to mind as authors who interact regularly with readers (without constantly shilling their books). I'm sure there are more, but those are a few that I enjoy and follow :)

Personally, I would love him to answer questions from here.

It would be interesting if he did. He could perhaps solicit questions from very long-term members who have written the most on the boards, especially in the areas dedicated to King's work. That way it would limit the numbers of people asking questions. Seems to me the social media platform he has chosen might not be the best way of doing this.

Of course, I still don't know if the announcement was serious. Perhaps Ms. Mod could confirm this?

I just asked him and yes, he is serious. He said it's because it's more convenient to do it through Twitter than here which is why he's going that route.
I completely see why he's doing it. Just this thread gives an example: here, people would expect longer, more drawn out answers than Twitter either asks or requires--that was what I was trying to get across in my original reply. More power to him! We may chatter on like magpies here (lol), but it doesn't make us more 'worthy' of his attention than the thousands who enjoy his stories without ever visiting a website. In fact, if part of the intent of having him join Twitter was to increase his visibility to younger readers, it's a fabulous idea. :)
