Yeah it is disquieting in several ways..Robert Carlyle,29 Weeks Later,Trainspotting,The Full Monty, was really creepy in this..and the other actors were good too,it was campy but creepy at the same time if you can dig it..
The plot had me just kind of staring the whole time. Couldn't turn the movie off first time I watched it, just too interesting/weird/disturbing...lol

Anyone know Necronomicon? Necronomicon: Book of Dead (1993) - IMDb

I think judging by the number of people voting for it on IMDb, it's not that well known. I actually saw this premiere at a horror all-night marathon (The Weekend of Terror - this is the best known horror-marathon in the Netherlands, taking place in Amsterdam in what I think is our oldest, most historic filmtheatre - it's still fully operational and if there is a big premiere it often takes place there).

I think the problem with it, is only the first story is really good. It's in the vein of a Corman or Bava film with an old house on a cliff by the sea. It's not even that special a script - pretty standard wanting a loved one back from death stuff - but it looks great and I think its secret weapon is the score by Joseph LoDuca that gives it a lot of heightened emotion. The next two stories simply are pretty forgettable and even though I've seen the film a number of times I literally forget how the stories go (the benefit of that being you can watch it multiple times through the years).
What I think they should have done is change the order of the stories. I would put the second story 'The Cold' first, put the third story 'Whispers' second and end with the best one, 'The Drowned', which is now first.
Even in 'Creepshow' they should probably have put 'The Crate' last.

It's still a film I recommend to Lovecraft fans, also for the wrap-around story that features the writer himself (played by Jeffrey Combs).

Another film that sadly never came to dvd here, but it's on YouTube.

Thank you very much for the recommendation, Gerald. I have found it on Youtube and added it to my "watch later" list! :)
