See? Gingers are awesome.

Also, that article made me think of one of my step-dad's old theories; he believed that our DNA carried all of our ancestral memories. He thought that this was the explanation for de ja vu, and for the feeling of having lived past lives. Sometimes I think he was full of ****, and others I think he may have been on to something. Interesting theory either way, eh?

...I agree, he speculated as others have over the decades......

I had no idea that Ginger was a pejorative. I don't like calling people things they don't like being called. Red haired kids in school got picked on but I never heard anyone call them Ginger, lots of other things but not that. I wonder if it's a UK thing. Does anyone know right off?
I have no idea. Champ asked me to post this for him and I obliged. I don't necessarily think ginger is a negative term but I suppose some may not like it. I've never used it, personally. I try not to offend others if I can help it, but in a climate where everyone gets offended over everything these days, I suppose people could print off a list a foot long of terms they deem inappropriate. My guideline is to respect another's wishes but at the same time I can't spend my life walking on egg shells and censoring every thought I have. I'm not sure about you but Political Correctness has crossed a line, I think. It's just insanity.

I'm offended you diparaged egg shells the way you did. They are delicate and don't need to be spoken of so violently. ;)

Yes, being PC has crossed a line. Too much sensitivity about everything and most is not merited.

Just so you know, I wasn't casting aspersions at you. I am just curious as to why the word 'Ginger' is offensive to red haired folks. I've seen things on BBC where people used the word in a teasing way. Sorry, if you got the impression I was trying to school you. It wasn't my intention.

Oh no, not at all. No worries. I don't take offense, lol. ;)

Maybe it comes down to the fact that people with red hair, here in the UK, are actually our indigenous people. My argument against people complaining about 'immigrants' don't have a valid claim if they don't have red/ ginger hair. Yes it is a derogatory term over here, definitely was when I was at school. Tim Minchin has ginger hair, hence him been able to sing the song, with his tongue firmly in his cheek. It probably started when the Romans, then the French (Normans) pushed the Celts in to Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Then was made even worse by Henry VIII, starting the whole Protestant, Catholic issue.

Oh, thanks for the info. I wondered about that. Also I dig your t-shirt and it's a true story. Africa is the mother of us all.
